seat belts
Don,
Where do you bolt the shoulder harness on? And which type Y or H? How long? |
Art, I bolt them to the factory hole in the frame. The hole is forward of the big suspension adjusting nut and it is in the corner of the package tray. If you use that hole the harness will be at a slight angle to the seat so one side of the harness will need to be longer. Either type will work but the Y type is easier. The other way to attach them is to weld a 3" angle iron between the frame rails about 5" behind the 4x4 upper frame member (under the package tray). This allows the harness to go straight back at the proper angle. All new frames have this piece welded in.

Another belt idea?
Don -
Something I've thought about doing to allow for the mounting of "H"-type belts is what we did in a friend's Pantera - on that car we bolted in a bar that went between the standard lap/shoulder belt top mount point (where you secure the "Y" belt now). The "H" belts were threaded onto the bar. Apart from the fabrication required for the bar, any issues with that approach? JLW PS - a while back, DV pointed to a thread where he had pictures of his belt mounting system, but unfortunately, the pictures were lost. Are those still available anywhere? Might make a good addition to the CRII website. |
JLW, all of the new frames have the harness mount added between the frame rails. This is where DV mounted the harness to the frame.
