Sebring

Does CRII also now produce and/or support the Sebring? I've seen a couple of them advertised at pretty reasonable and wondered if upgrades or additional parts would be available for them.

I also wonder how the chassis design compares to the Cobra.

CRII does support the Sebring. We have 2 models, the Saxon which is a "flat side" 62 Healey, and the Sebring MX which is a flared fender version of the 62 Healey. There was an older model produced called the Sebring 5000 which used a leaf spring rearend. The MX replaced that model in the late 80's. They are a real good value for anyone looking for a used car. They don't hold the value like the Cobra but will still bring good money if built correct. The frame is actually a little more rigid than the Cobra because it has welded floor pans. The MX actually does better in the skid pad or on a road course vs. the Cobra. The Sebring 5000 will bring in the $8k to $15k range. The MX will bring low teens to low 20's.

Thanks Don. The add calls it a Sebring 5000 so I'll assume that it has a leaf spring rear then. What type of rear suspension does the MX have and how difficult would it be to upgrade a 5000 to MX suspension? Are there any other differences?

The MX uses the Fox body 8.8 rear. The rear clip flares were made wider to accomodate the rear. There is no easy way to modify the 5000 to accept the coil rear. I have seen some attempts but nothing good. You need to do pretty major frame mods to make it work. The interior was changed a little, and some upgrades to the radiator and heater. Other than that the cars are the same.

By the way, what is the weight of the Sebring frame?

Thanks,

Simon

Simon, I don't have all the records from the past but what I do know is the car was sold to Jay's Export Inc. on 5-22-91. It was ordered setup for a V8, manual trans. It was a kit order. The frames weigh about the same for the Cobra and MX.

I've never heard of anyone adapting the MX frame to the Cobra body. Sounds like a good idea though.
