Clutch Cable....

Hey Guys,

Haven't been around in awhile since I moved and have been working on the boat!!**)

I had my clutch cable break awhile back and replaced it with a 79 Mustang part from Advance...part # 14825.

Question is how much will these things stretch?? I have had to adjust it 4 or 5 times as the clutch gets closer to the floor and shifting becomes difficult especially when hot!!

I gave it a couple turns on the 7/16 nut yesterday and the clutch engages about 2" from the floor now and it shifts much better!!:)

Is this normal???:(

Top...pushing down you should have about 1/2 -3/4" max free play. From the floor up roughly an inch from the floor you should feel some type of engagement.

Rule of thumb only. If it isn't slipping and you have some free play top to boittom, you're good!

Hey DV.....

Thanks for the reply!!

The numbers you gave are about what I have but may require readjustment in a couple thousand miles?? Is there anything to the argument that the cable stretches??

BTW...I have a Ram Hi Performance clutch which has right much more pedal effort than a stock Ford clutch?? My 408 W would probably go through a stock clutch quickly??

Thanks again,
