Roll Bar Third Leg Mounting
I would appreciate any pictures and specific installation information on how you mounted the third (rear) roll bar leg to the frame.

Mike, the 3rd leg is attached to the frame with a bracket. The manual tells you to mount the bracket to the frame with 3 self tapping screws. The 3rd leg is then attached to the bracket with 1 self tapper. Since the roll bar is sold as cosmetic only that was the way they did it. Many of the builders will weld the bracket to the frame and then drill through the bracket and 3rd leg and bolt it to the bracket. The manual has good pictures of the installation on pages 6-26, 6-27, and 6-28.

This is more what I'm thinking should be done, except I would like a MUCH heavier bracket. Feedback please---Using 5/16" to 1/4" thick steel, weld a 4 sided box that would act as a base for the end of the 3rd leg. The 3rd leg slides into the box. Weld the box to the frame, and then-- drill through the box and the leg for a grade ( 8 ) bolt to tie the leg to the box? Just want something a lot stronger than what was originally included on the car. If anyone has pic's of their retro fit on this I would really appreciate seeing them. Thanks, Mike |

Since I did not want a cosmetic roll bar, i welded an angle bracket to the side of the frame. On top of the angle bracket, i welded a 2" tall section of thick steel tubing, that fits inside the roll bar down leg. The downleg fits over the tubing, with a bolt through both to hold it in place. John |

Check the ERA site for their roll bar installation. Theirs is a functional bar and anchors into a bracked in the trunk.
