Cam Specs
Don... Thanks for the cam specs. I called Comp today and ordered the same cam, but in a roller configuration. They were able to give me the same timing and duration specs (232-236) 110 lobe separation, but said that with 100 more cubes and being a roller cam they should increase the lift to .565-.570 instead of the .519-.523. Response should be the same, but take better advantage of the TF-R heads.
He also told me about a new distributor gear that's out from them that's a new compound....Say's it'll wear 2-3 times better than a bronze or hardened steel gear. $100..... Pretty pricey, but after less than 5,000 miles with a bronze gear and a stock oil pump my gear had teeth paper thin on it. If the valve hadn't dropped the distributor would have given out within a couple of hundred miles or sooner! Anyway....It should be interesting to see what the new engine does. It's in route now and all pieces should be here within a week or so. Thanks again! Bill |
Bill, one of the problems I found over the years is that the cam gear has teeth that are too sharp which in turn will tear up the distributor gear. Make sure you burnish the cam gear before installation. This will take care of any problems. I just run the cam gear on the wire wheel on my grinder enough to lessen the sharpness. It does work and you won't have any problems.

Thanks Don. I did notice that on the last two Comp rollers that I got both had edges that would cut with ease. I considered taking a jewelers file to them to break the edge, but had second thoughts and installed them as is. I'll be sure to clean this one up a bit before installing.:)
