Classic Roadsters Rollbar

Don,

My CR was built in 92. It doesnt have a roll bar. At some point I would like to add one. My thought is to have John York do it for me. If anyone can do it after the car is built, he can. Here is my question. The rollbar is advertised as "cosmetic" If I have him weld it in vs bolt it in, will it provide a fair degree of protection in a rollover?

(It was good talking with you about DV yesterday)

thanks

CobraEd, the way the rollbar was designed and the material used was the reason for the cosmetic statement. I think Gary Rutherford was covering his butt for liability as well. The roll bar has 2 bends at the base which would allow the roll bar to tip forward in a roll over. The way to fix it is to add a 4th leg forward. I am working on a new design that has straight uprights. I'm not sure when I'll have it done though. Welding the old roll bar in wouldn't provide any more protection at this point.

I don't have a roll bar either, but would like something a little more unobtrusive like those on BMW Z3's that would offer real rollover protection. Any suggestions?
