Parking wipers
Hey Don!
Several months ago I copied some instructions I think DV wrote, along with a diagram of the electrical connectors at the wiper motor, in order to have the wipers work and park automatically. I followed the instructions but the wipers won't park! FWIW, I'm using the GM-type column with the switch integrated with the turn signals. Any ideas? Thanks, Dwain |
Dwain,
This may not directly address your problem - but I had the same situation sort of and ended up wiring the wipers to an unused toggle switch and found it doesn't take much practice to time the shut off to park them where you want them. |
is it a Lucas? check out Petek's website for a schematic.

See if the info here helps. I know it helped me and several others with our wiper problems.

This may sound stupid but here goes. If the wiper switch is wired like in the manual and works properly except for parking the problem is sometimes that the motor is running to free and it runs past the parking stop on the motor gear. If you turn the motor in the mount to give it a little pressure it slows the motor down so it will park. If the problem is that the fuse is blowing, make sure you remove the blue wire from the back of the park switch on the motor and run it directly to ground.

HA!
"Stupid" is probably too strong a word but certainly "interesting" would apply. ;-) Motor seems to run free and easy - no fuses blown - although it makes a little more noise than I expected it would. DV's instructions included running the blue wire to ground - done that. Would slightly crimping the cable tube accomplish the same thing - to apply some resistance? Thanks! Dwain |
I don't think I would crimp the cable jacket. I would just turn the motor slightly in the mount. If you put some grease in the tubes it should quiet it down.

I'll try that.
Thanks! |
It works!
Don, you're a genius! Can't remember fixing something by making it work worse! ;-) HI, J. T. & G. R., thanks for your input! Dwain |
