Don, a question about wheels and back spacing, Again!!
Hi Don
I just received an email form Vintage wheels that their 9.5 X 15 inch wheels are available in 4" back spacing. I was wondering if these would fit in the back of my '92 Classic Roadster with the '92 8.8 rear end. I know, in the past, that you said 4" in front and 5" in rear. But I was wondering if the 4" would also work in the rear. Vintage Wheels does not make a wheel with 5" back spacing. And , if 4" back spacing will work, what is the largest tire that will fit ? Paul, from first glance....the 4" backspace would work.....but....it's gonna make the tire/wheel stick out past the fender well.
What you also have to remember is that the Vintage wheels are knockoffs.....which requires a knockoff adapter...which will add another 3/8" to that.... |

I think the front wheels can be had in 3 1/2" back spacing. I am worried that the back wheels won't fit with a 4" back spacing. They may stick out past the wheel wells. Paul |
They definitely will stick out with the knock-off adapters......
My SV requires a 3.5 backspace on the front and a 4.5 on the rear....I've been through all of this backspace stuff....I've made AutoCAD drawings....I've bugged all the members.... There's no way I could fit a 3.5" or a 4" knock-off wheel on the rear without it sticking out.... I went with the PSE wheels....I think you've been in on that post too. I talked with great length to Richard Oben (he sells Team III and PSE's both) and he said that due to the way the PSE's are manufactured, I could get that deep Trigo look on the rears with a 4.5" backspace on a 9.5x15 PSE wheel. I think the Team III's are 3 piece wheels.....PSE's are 2 piece. The way Richard explained it to me, this makes a big difference in appearance. |
You guys are right, the 4" will not fit properly. The 7.5" fronts need 3.5" backspace, the 9.5" rears need 4.5" backspace. PS 7.5" front wheels are available with a 4" backspace but they will work on the front. This backspace will set the wheels just right in the wheel openings. The 15" PS wheels are a one piece, the 17" are a 2 piece.
