Ignition Problem

May 27th we became the proud owners of a Classic Roadster Cobra. Been doing some tweeking here and there and have had wonderful help from the posts on this site. Thanks All!!

Now we have a problem that just "started". Car will start, then die when ignition switch goes back to run. Got it home by holding the ignition key. Took the Steering Column apart, bought a new ignition switch, checked all the connections. Put it all back together. Worked Great for about 6 startups. Now is doing the same thing again? We have the Chevette Steering column.

Thanks for any advice --

See if your system has a ballast resistor going to the coil. When the key is in the start position the resistor is bypassed...when the key is released to the run position the voltage is routed through the resistor instead of around it. Just a thought..... It was a classic problem on my older Corvettes.

The most likely problem is with the ignition box. If it is the stock Ford ignition the problem you describe is common. The only way to fix it is to replace the box. The other thing is to check the wiring. Check all the connections to the box.

Thanks much -- It was the ignition box. Locaated it and took it off. One of the terminals must have worked loose and it was pretty burned ----- I guess we were lucky.

Thanks for the help
