Max Side Pipe Temp ?

Don, what is the max side pipe temp ? I just learned of a ceramic coating company which is only 25 minutes from my residence. Plas-Tec Coatings mentions their black coating over the ceramic base has a max of 1200 degrees. I have previoulsy used Bill Hirsch high temp black over the Swain Technology ceramic, pearl white, which was rated at 1800 degrees

The dyno report I got on the engine I bought from Don has exhaust temperatures up in the mid 1400's. Looks like too high for that coating.

I believe that figure is based on the actual temp of the gas. I would be very surprised if a sidepipe got anywhere near that temperature.

Thanks for the reply. I am working on a new set of side pipes, quieter than the existing sidepipes to hopefully meet the CT DMV dB standards. The Swain ceramic coating is excellent, but a 12 hour round trip to deliver in upstate NY and then another trip to pick up. Might have to consider building a case to ship the side pipes. However, would not have wanted to re-do the coating if the local vendor had been used, thanks again for the reply.

If you are not aware of Swain, their web site, from my personal experience, highly recommended.

Hmmmm.... Good point. You're probably right - and that's probably right at the exhaust port on the engine. Most of the heat obviously would be dispersed out the sidepipe and not be absorbed by the pipes.

That temp is from the sensor where the exhaust exits the head. The actual sidepipe temp will be much lower but I don't have a specific number.
