CR Cobra what is different than other Cobras
 

hello,I would like to know how the CR Cobra is different than other Cobra replicas.It seems to have a good reputation from what i have read so far.i have read that the door is different ?Is the wheel base or size of the car also changed ? If so was this to make the car more leg room ? lastly is the suspension from a mustang,or from the factory?:D

The car is longer and wider than an original,the door being cut into the fender does allow easier entrance and egress also the leg room is much more than other replicas I've seen. The suspension is Mustang II but you can use tubular suspension and coil overs front and rear. I was impressed with the solid feel of the car even on rough road surfaces. The tech support from Don Scott and his crew is second to none.

thanks for your quick replies! Is the car larger to make it better riding or of easier assembly or other reason? I spend my time between Southern California and Las Vegas.

The car has a 94 inch wheel base vs 90 for the original and 92 for some other replicas. This allows for more room. I personally feel that a longer wheel base adds some stability and the car is not quite as twitchy as shorter wheel base cars. That is my personal opinion though. I am in Las Vegas if you would like to see my car.

I have had mine on the road for 5 years and 14k miles. It is a very solid
car. The seats are hard to beat for comfort, you have a wide range of engine choices - there are even a couple running around with Viper v-10's in
them. If you are over 6' tall you will appreciate the additional 4 inches in the wheelbase, with no harm done to the proportions. Plenty of leg room.
As others have said, the support from Don and family is excellent. He didn't
own Classic Roadsters when I bought mine in 1999 but he did provide the
engine and tranny which has worked great.

I've read about how the legroom is better in a CR but how about the foot space, I'm 6-1 but I have a left knee that doesn't bend anymore from a motorcyle accident which means I have to have an auto (yeah, yeah, no autos in Cobras) so I need a space for my size 10+ shoes on the left side. Is there ample foot space there?

I wouldn't call it 'ample', but it can be modified on the left side to make more room.

Of course with an auto trans the clutch pedal is not there. Now run a 'shortened' brake pedal and 'ample' would apply. Heres a key question to ask when it comes to room on the left side for your feet. Does it have a 'dead pedal'? Thats a pedal used to rest your left foot on while driving, it's next to the clutch pedal but on the floorboard.

Thanks for the info, not sure I could use a dead pedal even if it had one, most of them aren't far enough away to put my foot on, with no bend in the knee it has be to the right length, guess that would be something that can be adjusted, added or deleted without much of a problem during a build. If there was a bit of space between the side wall (left) and the outside panel, I could always due a little bit of creative fiberglassing for a outward curve, assuming the side wall is fiber. Another option is to use a regular size break pedal instead of grocery getter auto brake pedal.

Does the Classic rds. 11 have a drop floor?

We have changed the floor pans quite a bit. The front drivers side frame rail was moved in 2" for added width in the footbox and the pan dropped 3". We also dropped the rear pan under the seat about 4" on both sides. The pans are now metal instead of fiberglass. We can now get someone up to 7' tall with no problem. Some of the other changes we made are the addition of 4 point harness mounts, new wiring harness with labeled wires, new heater system, larger Griffin radiator. I also changed over to Ididit columns instead of the GM so we can have dash mounted ignition. The gauges we offer now are similar to the smiths with the reverse speedo and are all electric with the electronic speedo. We've added more adjustability to the doors and the hood. We got away from the old bicycle type door openers and have a nice lever behind the seat on each side. Stainless roll bars are available for each side and we also have a full width 4 point roll bar. We had a new mold made for the bodies and they are really nice. The bodies weigh about 250 lbs and are strong. We just designed a new side curtain for the tops and went with a new front header that slips over the top of the windshield. The clutch and brake pedals have been modified to get closer to a 6:1 ratio on the brake and more throw on the clutch. There are some other minor things also.
