Tonneau Cover install
Who here has a tonneau cover on thier CR? Do you have any pics of it?? Did you install it and if so was it hard.. ??
I got mine after the car had already been painted so I am a little nervous about drilling into the paint. That and the pictures on the instruction sheet for doing so are a bit dark and hard to make out.. :( Comments and suggestions welcome.. |

I didn't want to have all those pin fasteners for the few times I use the tonneau cover. Different story if you plan on using a soft-top also. Ralph:MECOOL: |
My car had the cover installed when I bought it. I have never used it in three years. I can see that some of the pins screwed into the fiberglass have caused small cracks and some have chipped the paint. I know the guy with the car before me lived in an area with much cooler weather and possibly rain or even snow. No signs of any water damage thankfully. But he may have used it quite a bit more than I would need to. Make sure you really want it before installing it.

@RedSnake351 Can you share the pics of your tonneau you were talking about. I don't see them. TIA |

I went little different direction. I found this small mom and pop company that makes these that will match the color of your car. As snap to put on and off. Comes with a case. Fits in trunk.

I saw those here: PiggyBack Covers - Cobra Tonneau Covers - Home
But you can't drive with that on, of course. I'd like one for driving in the rain (which I hope never to do!) PS How much are those piggy back covers? |
Cost
They were $270. Take about 6 weeks to get. You have to provide exact measurements for an exact fit. Perfect for when the car sits outside at the golf club for 6 hrs to keep the dirt out. Nice people to deal with. My car has never been in the rain and I don't intend to drive it in the rain unless I get stuck. This cover would keep most of the water out if it did rain on it while parked.

Thanks. $270 is not bad at all for what it does. The only problem is, I don't play golf! LOL
Seriously, I figured I'd carry a rain proof car cover for those situations you described. |
I had a local boat repair/upholstery shop make mine and am pretty happy with it. I use it when traveling and like the fact that the wind doesn't blow things in the passenger area around. I have a couple interior hold down straps that cuts down on the fluttering and even installed some aluminum struts on the underside for the same reason. These were improvements but I just live with the rest of the fluttering. Makes it better for securing stu4ff when stopped for the night or a meal. Of course, bad guys could just un-snap but out of sight, out of mind. Less temptation, I'm thinking.
BTW, I use "LIft-a-Dots" rather than snaps except along the tops of the doors, where I have a couple snaps. Didn't want to lay my arms on the pins for hours. |
Adam, everything must have went well with Mr. Cox, after seeing the car? I looked at those PiggyBack covers for my Classic Roadster, but a car cover (Outside, waterproof) while sittings works just a well. Indoor I only use the 2-layer, (Cotton) cover light brown, (Tan?) I order one size larger so it lay's down almost to the ground. Cheers Tom.

Tom,
I'm awaiting the report. |
i like to look of it. I really do not like the snaps.

To FredG,
The Tonneau is exactly what I'm looking for. Can you please share the contact info. (P.S. I sent an email to Piggy Back two days ago and have not heard back.) Thanks |
Gus. This was the contact info I had for them when they did my cover.
pigfarm70@gmail.com or at 678-677-2563 at any time. |
Is there any tonneau cover that somehow connects underneath rather than on top of the body? My main gripe with the look of the tonneau is all those "pegs" or whatever they are called, that must be drilled in and stick up when the cover is off.
|
Thanks FredG!

Placed my order today with PigFarm. Good folks to work with. Looking forward to our new Tonneau cover.
