Wiring instructions

Has anyone used the American Autowire 15 circut wiring kit in their CRII with a FORD motor and ProComp ignition setup? My problem is that the wiring harness is designed for a GM. What I am looking for is how to hook up the harness to the control module, coil & dist. I got some info a while back from Pete and the guys at American Autowire but I am looking for someone that sketched out the wiring on paper. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Thanks in advance.

How different is the procomp from the MSD?? I used the same wiring kit in my CRII initially with the HEI ignition but then switched to the MSD. I would be willing to help out where I can..

I dont think that it is much different. The only thing on the ProComp is the 2 wires that go to the dist are not the same colors as the wires on the dist. The wires on the dist has a multi connecter on it and the wires on the control module is just 2 wires with female spade connectors on them. I contacted ProComp and they told me what wire goes where so that part I have. What I am looking for mainly is how to connect the American Autowire harness to the Control module and coil I guess because the control modual hooks up to the dist.

Thanks, Terry

On my MSD the coil gets its power from the MSD control module. The only wires I connected to the MSD are the PINK, White (Tach) and a ground. A mechanic buddy of mine recommended that if I needed to pull power for a coil I could do it from the same PINK wire or from a wire run to the alternator output.

Previously when I had the HEI all in one distributor it was just the PINK and White Wire to get it all running.

On my ProComp there are 2 wires that run to the dist and about 6 other wires that run to other places. My concern is what wires from the harness hooks up to the ProComp box. The instructions from American Autowire has no option for an ignition control module. Thanks for the help. One of these days I am going to have to run up to Vacaville and check out your Cobra. I think that I still might have family there somewhere. My uncle lived there for 30+ years and had a trucking company there.

Has Tallguy come and checked out how he fits in yoor car yet?

Thanks again, Terry

Nope not yet.. I just got back yesterday from a 3 week vacation trip with my family..

What are the 6 wires for?? The MSD only has 4 total outside of its own personal wires.. They are ignition, constant DC, Ground and tach..

Hope you had a good vacation. I'll bet it is nice to be home though.

2 wires go to the dist, 2 wires to the coil, 1 to the tach, 1 switched 12 volt, 1 battery positive & 1 battery negative. I don't know if I hook up the coil wires in conjuntion with the harness wires or instead of the harness wires.

It's awesome to be home.. I missed my dog.. hehhe..

Well I would say that only the tach, switched 12, battery positive and negative would go to teh Autowire setup and the other 4 wires for the tach and coil would come from your ignition box. Without knowing what peices you have in total it is hard to say.

I think that I have figured it out. The pink wire (coil) from the harness goes to the switched 12 volt. I think all of the other wires would come from the ProComp ignition module as the module is also the rev limiter. I will keep all of the extra wires connected but taped off until everything works.

Thanks for all of your help,

Terry
