Front sway bar
Does anyone know who makes the front sway bars for the Classic Roadsters? Are they a stock mustang II or are they custom made? If so by who? Would like to run car at BIR next summer. Does anyone have one they would like to sell?

I have never been able to confirm who makes the front sway bar. The CR's bar is almost an inch thick and is definately to strong for the car. Even for a BB motor. If you have the skills get a SPEEDWAY MOTORS" CATALOG, go with one somewhere around a 1/2 to 5/8's thick, buy two eyelets for the ends, bend the bar, easy to do, weld the ends on and it will bolt right up to the CR attaching brackets, or they can be bought seperate too. Professional hours on the track testing the OEM front sway bar by a very professional driver, (Drove the Indy 500 for years) and the ultimate decision was to simply unhook it. Probably not what you wanted to hear but there it is. Either leave the OEM off or built one for the car. If you really want to be good, and easier to make make your own rear one too that is fully adjustable and this one is pretty easy to make. The rear one done right will have a multituude of adjustiong slots and the rods will have heims for setting tension. A little practice and you an really dial both of them in. When our driver got done with both bars his skid pad test was dam near a full 2G's! DV Just a little testing and in the scheme of things, not much money! |
Talk to the dirt track guys
Jac Speedway is a good place. Get a straight bar, min 3/4"- max 1" and the 2 mounts. The ends are splined so you have total adjustment for the bar. You will want the ends to clear the frame by about 2 inches. You will need to jack the car up on jack stands, (level) and turn the wheel max right and left to see where you mount the bar and clearing the wheels. This will give you the length on the bar. They sell straight or bent end arms with solid ends. They also sell link kits to the lower controll arms. You will need a kit with weldnuts to install on the frame. Look at your car or truck to see how to setup the bar. Rick L. The links should be straight up and down with the bar mounted complete.

Thanks guys, I was looking at Speedway Engineerings sway bars.
The problem I have is there is only about 1" clearance between frame rail and tire when turned all the way. The stock Classic Roadsters sway bar tucks under frame rail out of the way. Speedway says to add 1 1/2" to each end past the frame rail. Don't really want to cut, bend, or weld the arms that mount to the bar. I didn't see the link kits on Speedway Motors web site, I'll have to give them a call. Thanks for the help. |

You can oder just the bars, heat them red and bend at will cool slow- works great! DV |
