Simple solution for a (possible)aggravating problem

If you haven't understood Huckelberry's probem, and it too has never been mentioned in the books is the top of the firewall flange.

What we are talking about is the top of the firwall that the body sits down on and actually straddles it. This part of the firewall is "rough cut" or NOT cut at all after coming out of the mold. Sometimes the top of the curve actually hits the inside of the body when the body is in place, not allowing the body to sit down all the way, or it could cause the body to rock left and right keeping it from sittting down tight on the frame rails.

If you have this problem trying to get the body to go down far enough, this IS the first place to look. Put some cheap spray paint just on the top curve of the firewall, I have used a thin string of kids clay) drop the body in place, then pick the body back up and see if you have any transfer. IF you do then simply take some tape, drop it below the top of the firewall, about a 1/4" and follow the curve. Now following the curve of the tape cut off approximately the 1/4" and try the body again. It should now fit fine.

IMPORTANT: For the final and I mean when the body is going down for the LAST time get a roll of the old style rubber windshield ribbing, place one or two strips on the very top of the cowls edge. Now drop the body into it's fiinal resting place. The ribbon will seal the body to the cowl eliminating what has been determined since the original cobras as cowl shake at speed.

I don't know how many people have complained about a vibration in their car after it was finished about a resonating / alternating vibration in the cars above 45 mph. Hundreds of dollars have been spent re-balancing wheels, shaving tires, re-doing driveshafts, etc., etc, trying to get rid of this shake when it is nothing more than the firewall vibrating at various speeds.

With the ribbon system and not using "caulk", i.e.; silicone and such the ribbon will take care of the problem and also make it possible to remove the body someday for what ever reason.

A small thing but it could save a lot of aggravations later on!

CptEddies cowl was hitting at the very top, just barely not allowing it to fall into place without force, trimmed and now a perfect fit!

Another 2's cent note but an important one!
