Dwain,
Just thought of something. The only thing that I did not send you is ferrols for the window posts. Check this site, DV had some information about what material to use and how to install them. Have fun, Terry |
Thanks, Terry!
I'm pretty sure I have what I need. Jim, That's an idea! Let me think about that... :D Dwain |
Hey Terry (in CA)!
Top arrived today, thanks! I notice that there aren't any latches on the ends of the top/front rail. On tops I've used (borrowed) before there were latches on each end - kinda like you would see on a tool box - that secure each end to the windshield frame. How did you secure the ends? Thanks! Dwain |
Dwain,
To be honest with you, I never even installed the top on my Cobra. The snap pins were already on my car. I removed them to give to you. My windshield frame does have some bracket things and there were some in a bag with the stuff that I got with my Cobra when I bought it. I will pop them in the mail to you. Hopefully you can use them. Edit note, I looked at the brackets and they did not look like the ones on my windshield. So I removed the ones off my windshield and will mail them to you asap. These are just overbent clips. Not latches like on a tool box. Terry |
Hi Terry!
Understand the overbent clips that attach to the windshield frame - I already have those. What I need would be the "female" part - sort of a rectangular loop attached to a lever that locks by hooking onto the clips and going "over center". Does that make any sense? Thanks! Dwain |
Terry,
The small metal loops that are coming at ya go on the windshield frame with the 'loops' at the top. The latches are a hardware/cabinet latch and they are installed by 2 blind rivets on each side, holding the latch in place. Use care on these-measuremnts are everything! Too loose and the top corners can come un-done at speed, to tight and you will not be able to get them to latch. DV |
DV... Its late! :3DSMILE: Go to bed! The weather is getting better and I need you well rested to spray paint

Those I do not have and they did not come with the top when i got it. Are there holes in the Alum flange for the rivets for that latch? Does anyone have any pictures of that latch. I am unsure what it looks like. If I can find some at McMaster-Carr I will purchase tham and send them to you. Terry |
Hi Terry!
No, no holes where the latches should be. As DV said, measurments are critical. I'll bet CR expected the installation to be done individually. On the top I borrowed, and installed on my car, one latch was Ok - the other one was a little loose. DV, any spare latches laying around? Thanks! Dwain |
Dwain,
Check out www.mcmaster.com. Look at their latches (or someone elses if you prefer) and let me know which one you want to use. I'll order them and have it shipped to you. On the McMaster page look up "draw latches" page 2926. Terry |
Dwain,
http://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/115/...l/1889ap1s.gif This looks like the latch- it's "E" if a whole page shows up. DV PS.OK, this only shows the latch, follow the link above to tension latches and I have indicated "E" as stated. |
Terry/DV,
The "wings" with the screw holes on the "E" model are too wide. The better fit is model "B", part #1590A43. Thanks, guys! Dwain |
Dwain,
I will order "2" of them and have them shipped to you. Terry |
Thanks, Terry!
Dwain |
-Dwain,
The latches are ordered. I will send you more info as it I get it. Terry Edit: Per McMaster-Carr, They will ship today (3-9-09) from the Chicago warehouse. |
Hey Terry!
Latches arrived... Perfect! Thanks! Dwain |
Great, Hope they work out ok.
