Wheel Sizes
Newbe here. I have a CC2 kit I am finishing for a customer.
He wants to run 16" front and 17" rear wheels & tires. What off-sets are recommended? What width front and rear? What tire diameter? I don't want any clearance issues for this customer? We intend to run traditional Cobra wheel style. |
Sorry guys. Correction. Its not a CC2. I am finishing up a Classic Roadster 2 that was purchased in about 1993-1994. This was one of the last complete kits sold before Classic Roadsters filed chapter 11 back then. I am at the paint stage and will be finishing the car in about 8 weeks. I need some help with max wheel width front and rear as well as back spacing along with max tire width so I can advise the customer and he can purchase wheels..
Need some help from those of you have that have CR2's on what your able to fit to the body. I was told this was the best forum. All of you are the experts wilth lots of experience with this kit. Thanks. Robert. |

Don Scott built my CR I in 1999, he used: Front: 8" wheels , 4" backspace, 245X60X15 Rear: 9" wheels, 4.6" backspace. 275X60X15 Above using Compomotive HB wheels ....not implying this is or is not correct for your application, but just one example. |
Check with Vintage wheels they advertise on this site. They have some good wheel dimension info here http://www.vintagewheelsus.com/tech.php
One of the best things to do in my opinion is to bolt a wheel onto the hubs and start measuring how wide and how far in or out you want it. |
Don / Mickmate. Thanks very much ! That gives me somewhere to start regarding 8" front and 9" rear and backspacing. It's also close to the tire sizes I thought would work with the basic measurements I took off the car. I can take those typical tire diameters and convert to metric 16 & 17" sizes..
If anyone else can contribute to what tires they have on there CR2's it would help to make the correct decision first time. I found a picture when the car was deilvered and the grill opening had a number #259 written on it. I suspect is was kit # 259? The owner did get a manufactures certificate so hopefully in 8-10 weeks he will be driving this thing. Sorry to you true Ford guys, this car has all aluminum bow-tie 400 CI small block, 10-1 compression, .550" lift hydralic roller cam, phase 6 bow-tie ported heads, alum pan, 750 holley, aprox 550HP. Dual disc clutch, 6 speed T56 overdrive trans, Moser 9" ford, aluminum center section, 3.90 gears. Aluminum radiator. 1 3/4" hand built tuned headers. A Leathal combination. Robert C. |

I'm running 245/45 R17's on front and 275/40 R17's on the rear all on Cobra R wheels. There's room for more with the right backspacing. Goodyear Billboards go on as soon as everything is sorted out. 26-10/15 and 26-12/15 respectively. -Greg Oh yeah, I like that motor combination! |
