Last Steps... VIN PLATE, & DOT Inpection

I'm finishing off my CRII, I bought a VIN plate, and will have the VIN etched in. But where do I put it? There is no # on the frame, or body of the car, so is this plate going to cover me?

On a side note, when I applied for the Title, the state never sent me a DOT inspection form, but rather just sent me the title. Normally an inpection must be done, pay $40, then get the title. Do I duck the inspection, or do I fess up?

JBR,
You BOUGHT a VIN plate? HMMmmm?
Get what ever your state requires, do NOT take any short cuts at this point even if the mistake is theirs!

Normally each state will ISSUE you a VIN number and send you an inspection/VIN plate after it is inspected.

I just talked to the DOT. They said I'm good to go. The guy said it doesn't happen very often, but since I supplied all the right stuff (MSO, Reciepts, etc) I was not marked as 'requiring' inspection. Good thing too, he said the inspection locations are backed up through Oct right now.

Follow up

I called and fessed up, and apparantly the small town DOT place I went to did not file things right. So I was asked to complete an inspection, even though I already had the title.

I bought a metal tag, that did not have any numbers on it, but had a cobra emblem on it. Had a local jewlry store etch in the make, model, year, and VIN# and placed in under the hood.

During inspection, they dont require a tag, but they do want numbers somewhere (frame, body), or they will send you a film to place on your windshield, which is what they do with classic cars. At least this is what I was told. Since I already had a tag created the inspection person simply recorded the location and confirmed the information.

When I register for tags next year I have to have the passed inspection form with me at that time, planning on getting specialized paltes then anyways.

Of course state to state, this varies, but mine is registered/titled in Minnesota.

jbr,
Did your MSO say Replica on it? Did you get it titled as a 1966 Cobra RECONSTRUCTION? I'm in MN also. Sounds like an awsome car.
