New guy, electric biased

A good friend of this board 4RE KLR, had posted this nice site on the forum where I play, so I thought just join here and meet this gas nuts. No offence!!!%/:)

Nice cars here, I hope some day I can find one of this ones but electric powered.
I know many will say where's the point of no engine sound... but I see benefits! Just the way I think, not trying to change your way of thinking!

If anyone interested on different toys, sneak a peek on the NGKRA site.

Best,

Gaston.

Not sure but I think Shelby has one that's electric.
Not enough noise for me.

Welcome! You can count on someone crapping on the idea, but I think it would be cool! Don't let any detractors or so called purists get you down.

I believe the electric job the gal was thrashing was oon an episode of "Supercar Exposed".

Wasn't that electric Cobra for sale here on CC without the motor and batteries? I guess they gave up on it. I think it was a painted Kirkham.

That's the same video a saw, thanks, but this was back on 2007, tried to log on both of their sites http://ssi-racing.com/ and http://www.ssinc.us/ no luck...

Seems they are out of order?

gaston 10-02-2009 08:09 PM

well seems my links need to be moderated, no problem, just want to say I found a forum about the guy who was making them, he said they've made 11 of them and no more.

I seem to remember someone building an electric FFR. It may have been a college class project, not a production car.

Going electric isn't cheap. Converting a Porsche 914 to electric motor with controllers and such runs about $15k. There is a guy here locally (Felton, CA) that sells conversion kits with the motor, controller, batteries, et cetera.

I thought an electric 914 would be a fun "next project" but $15k sounded a little steep.

I DO love the sound of a well-tuned exhaust, though. Be hard to give that up.

The choice is still power vs. range. You can build a silent asphalt-ripper, but it won't have much range. Witness the Tesla Roadster, which will run with most hot sports cars, and even has something of an okay range (if you keep your foot out of it)... but whose batteries are only good for about 300 charge cycles. Do the math...

Me, I want a Cobra powered by a big windup spring.

I sort of like the renewable fuels concept. Something on the order of methane. That way when you're getting low on fuel you can stop at one of the many roadside dining emporiums, get an Xtra large pizza, a bowl of Texas style chili (with extra beans) a six pack of beer and both you and the car can be refueled in 15 - 20 minutes.

I you can't finish the entire pizza just think of it as the equivalent of a reserve tank of fuel. Save a bottle or two of beer and maybe a small order of beans to go for a couple extra octane points.
