New From Oklahoma

I am glad to have found this site, it is nice to be able to talk to other Cobra owners. I am not your typical Cobra owner, I'm only 24. Just to let everyone know I didn't get it from my parents and have worked hard to get the opportunity to enjoy this car. I paid my way through college, and got a mechanical engineering degree, and decided it was time to get something nicer than an escort to drive at times. Thus leading way to my 2001 B&B kit. It has a 351w for now, but plans to pull it and build a healthy but mild 427w. It is of course a manual & blue with white stripes as I feel that is the only way they should come. If you have any questions or live near north central Ok let me know.

jbmatth,

Welcome to the forum, nice Cobra! You'll find lots of good folks here willing to help out with any questions you may have when it comes to these cars.

I'm in Claremore and run with about 12 other car folks with an assortment of nice cars from Cobra's to old Mustangs, street rods, a Mopar or two and some nice pick-up trucks. We're an informal group that just enjoys getting the cars out for car shows & cruises. We're planning a Rt.66 Cruise in April from Sapulpa out to Pop's Soda Fountain & the Round Barn in Arcadia. Send me a pm or e-mail me at projectscales@hotmail.com if you're interested in that or anything else we have going on in 2011.

There's also a bunch of Cobra guys in the local Tulsa area, I'm sure they'll chime in. I also know of one out in Enid.

See ya,
Randy

Welcome fellow B&B owner!
From time to time, there are cruises in North West Arkansas which may be close enough for you to make the trips. (Well worth it!)
One question I have is how do you get affordable insurance for it being under 25!
I will have to disagree as to your (only color!), but I do agree with it being manual!

And I would have to dis-agree with Randy because several of us over here near the Tulsa metro area like to take these pieces of art out and Thrash them around a track or two. But, we also like to cruise a little as well. Maybe we can hook up with you one of these days if someone would plan a trip to Ponca City or maybe out to Red Rock Canyon.

Welcome to the fun.

Clois, hmmm, is that your subtle way of asking me to plan a trip out to Ponca City?%/

You have nothing to disagree with Clois. :) In my reply I was talking about the folks in my group up here north of you racer type guys in Tulsa.

I will agree with you though, the "racers" are all in the Tulsa / Broken Arrow area. Maybe one day, I'll even try it.....................%/

We do have at least one racer in our group, a guy with a 468 CI 70 Challenger Pro Street car, I guess you could call him a "racer". :)

Glad to hear there are some other cobras around the area. Warm weather will be welcome to make a few trips around.

Juggernaut, I would most definitely be interested in joining on the Rt. 66 cruise. I have heard of the Tulsa club, but haven't been able to find much information on them on the web.

Infletcher, As for insurance it was a real big headache. I thought it was taken care of when I purchased the car, but turns out because it is a kit, I'm 24, and have one pesky ticket on my record I had to try about a dozen different places, before I could even find someone who would write a policy for me. It turned out to be not painful at all. Good news is I will be 25 shortly, and the ticket goes off my record in the spring before I have to renew.

I'd like to race it some, but the "stock" 351 might not, so until I can put some money into the drivetrain I'll hold off on anything but maybe one drag strip pass to see where I am.

Juggernaut 01-07-2011 01:38 PM

We don't have a website, we're just a bunch of folks that get together often to enjoy each others company & of course the cars.

How do you want me to contact you when I finish up the details about the Rt. 66 Cruise? I've found it best to contact people by e-mail or a phone call. We'll be doing some other cruises this year too, I could keep you informed on them too if you'd like.

See ya,
Randy

Put the Mid America Team Shelby event on your calendar for June in Tulsa. Huge event and lots of Cobras attend from across the country.

Y'all ought to set up a Yahoo Group like we have in Austin. It makes it easy to keep up with what and were we are going. You are welcome to come on down the last weekend of March for our big event.

Why don't you guys set up a Oklahoma Forum on clubcobra like the Texas Forum. That way others can see what you are planning and put on their calendars also. I know the Houston and Austin groups have their own outside sites but Dallas relies on the Texas forum here which seems to work great.

Just a thought....

I am glad to see some activity on this site about Oklahoma. I live in Edmond and just have not been able to find anything going on with fellow Cobra owners. I ride with a group of motorcycle riders and we have set up an email list so we can comunicate about rides, track days, etc. It makes a great way to comunicate without having some type of formal group.

I'm a member of another forum for c10 trucks, and they have a very well done Oklahoma section if you'd like me to link to it I can. I think it would be a good idea, and makes things easy to get find. If I were more computer savy I'd offer to build a site or something. Side note, I'm in the middle of my second top end overhaul on my truck in 1 year. Long story, but I wish I'd have just gone with a crate engine in the beginning, it would have saved me LOTS of time and money. Wish me luck.
