Tools for new owner
I'm a new Backdraft Cobra owner and wanted to know what are some of the basic tools I need. My skill set is armature but anxious to learn.
1) Timing Light 2) Vacuum Gauge 3) Basic socket set Anything else? Also does anyone know of a good shop in North New Jersey that can work on the car and tune if needed. |
Wow. That could be a long list depending on your budget, abilities and what you are comfortable taking on yourself. A few basic ideas to start with:
Low profile floor jack air compressor tire pressure gauge electrical tester mechanic's tool set, not just a socket set (Sears Craftsman will do as a starter) fire extinguisher suitable for oil, gas fires The list can go on and on! Your car will never stop telling you what it needs next.;) Good luck and congrats on your new toy! |
Congrats! Grab yourself the plier safety wire clamp for the wheels with some extra wire to leave in the trunk just in case....

Congrats on the car
Basic tools to be able to handle every nut and bolt on the car
Loc tite for nuts in both blue and red color If the car has an MSD setup for the ignition, rotor, cap, magnetic pickup inside the cap. Fine a used MSD box that works. Keep this in the car for trips. Basic tools to swap these parts. Electric tape Duct tape teflon white or yellow sealer tape tube of RTV safety wire and twist pliers. Large plastic dead blow hammer. Harbor Freight rubber soft mat for being under car and for naps;) Most important, ask questions and find guys know know what they are doing under the hood of the car. You can goggle how to read sparkplugs and change them yourself. 2 heavy moving blankets for the fenders of the car. Drop a wrench and it will mark the light foam fender covers. folded moving blankets work better The rest will be learn as you go. Good luck with the car. Be careful. Rick L. |
Does it have spinners? If so a lead mallet

I forgot all about the need for a lead mallet, wire and pliers. |
You don't need them if you have lug nuts. If you are on spinners, then a must.
Also, depending on how often you plan on driving it, throw in some gas preservative and get a battery tender. Get the right one your type of battery. Also, what tires are on it now? |

Ok, Tool kit seems to have been addressed what about a good mechanic/shop in north New Jersey?
