Another Newbie just passing through? Or are you really looking for help?

Sorry guys, busy with work. But appreciate greatly the level of help offered. Here are the pics. In one pic you will notice a chipped cylinder wall at the very edge and wondering if that is a problem. Also I remeasured the bore (4.051) and it is definitely a 390. I wire brushed the block ID. What do you think ?

Let me know if more detailed pics are required... Thanks again.

None of my reference documents indicate a 390 with an "H" designation. But that doesn't mean it didn't exist. Hopefully someone here has other references. Thanks for posting the pics. Looks like a hydraulic cam motor as well.

The subject comes up every so often on the Ford FE forum. Here's on example (a search will bring up more): 332-428 Ford FE Engine Forum: Ford/Merc High compression 390 2V revisited. Shoe, do you have another great story :)

I was referring to the "H" at end of the block casting number....

Interesting information... Thanks fellas.

I have a 428 block out of a 67 station wagon. It has the bosses cast in the block for cross-bolting.

It's my understanding that to cross bolt a block the block had to the bosses cast in place.

You can not take just any 390 block and cross bolt it. Correct?

Early 427's had solid lifters, not hydraulic like this block. Also the crossbolt holes were countersunk. Your crossbolts are surface mounted.
