After a 14 year build, ready for the road!
Hello Gentlemen,
I started with a chassis assembly from Everett-Morrison in late 2000, added the front and rear suspensions from mid 80's Corvettes and got the stretched body from EM the next year (since I'm 6'4"). Well, after moving 4 times in two states and lots of packing - unpacking cycles, I'm ready to get this one done. After having the car sit in storage for the last year, I've got all my titling paperwork approved by the FL DMV and have an appt for my compliance exam on Tues 31 May. I'll haul the beast down there, stopping along the way for a weight slip at the local cement plant scale. Should be a fun day and I hope to walk away with a current registration and tag. It's been a long, long road with parts obtained from all over the country. Had some help along the way but I would estimate 90-92% self built. I opted for a Ford Racing 392CI small block crate engine with a 5spd Richmond transmission. Runs nice and sounds even better. I live in NE Tallahassee, FL, if anyone is in my neck of the woods. Give me a shout - would love to hear from another snake lover....... |
With a name like RazorbackRon, I would think you were from Arkansas!
Congratulations! If I were in Florida, I'd get with you on a run! |
Pics?

Congrats. Yours sounds a lot like mine. .... Once you get the kinks out, there are some good cruising opportunities along the Gulf coast. Enjoy ... and be cautious until you get used to it. These things are nothing like ordinary cars.

Not a record on the build time but I'm sure in the top 5%.

Hey Dan,
I did join the DSCC and hope to meet you guys along the road this year. There is a Fathers Day Car Show on 18 June that I hope to attend with my ride here in Tallahassee. I know of one guy who is supposed to attend, Ricky Harper and look forward to meeting him there. Thanks for the info. |
Congratulations...I know where you're coming from...I was 8 years(26 months in the body shop) July of last year I pulled out of the garage for my first legal drive...went to pull out onto the road and I just sat there for a minute or two with my head on the steering wheel trying to compose myself...after 2600 miles it still feels the same...I can't believe it's all mine...ENJOY!!!...steve

The best things come to those who wait! If you decide to take a long trip--I suggest a swing thru N Georgia & up to S Tennessee. Absolutely beautiful roads with limited traffic. Try any of the area around Lake Lanier (GA), thru Dahlonega, Gainesville, etc...winding mountain roads! There is also the magnificent Route 1 (and A1-A!) right up the coast. I did it once in between HS & college ( in a '66 Mustang GT convertible) from Key West all the way to Maine (lived in Texas!). Loved it, and the 2 guys that went with me are still my very best friends some 40 years later. What a drive that would be with a pack of Cobras!!!

Without pictures, this post is bogus!! :D

Bogus?
What, you can't find my pictures? They are in an album with my name on them. That's too hard? Should I send them to you personally? What is it you want?
|
Charming, absolutely charming response.
I guess that without the smiley face which I forgot, you thought I was being critical. Not my intention. There was also another post wondering about pictures. Usually when posting regarding a car there are accompanying pictures. There was no mention of your album. And no it's not necessary for you to send them to me personally, although that was very thoughtful of you. By the way I have looked at your album. Have a wonderful day. :D John O Quote:

My apologies
John, My apologies for the tone. I took your initial 'bogus' comment as an insult. I was still trying to figure out the Club Cobra procedures for uploading pictures and was working on that as you commented. After all the work that went into this project, a 'bogus' comment from a fellow Cobra enthusiast set my fuse alight!
Sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I'll buy the first round of beer whenever we meet. Ron |
Ron, not to worry. I can understand how you misunderstood my post. And as far as the beer, well that's a hell of a trip from New Jersey to Florida. And by the way your car looks terrific. :D

Well, my day at the Florida DMV compliance exam was a success and I now have a Florida titled and tagged vehicle! Easy Peasy! Those of you in the Tallahassee area will soon see RAPID RT on the road. Due to the 94 degree temps lately, it will only be early in the morning!
|
Ron, congratulations and well done! :D

It took me 6 years to build my Arntz. After 30 years of improvements, it's becoming by a pretty good car. I can totally relate to your feelings about your car. As bad as it is, it looks great, it puts me in "fighter pilot mode" when I drive it and it's MINE!
