Lone Star Classics
I have recently purchased an LS427 Roaster. Car is solid but has definitely been raced hard. Has a strong 427 FE and top Loader 4 spd. Needs a lot of TLC and many minor corrections. I am up to all this work as I have owned, restored , rebuilt many Ford muscle cars over the years for myself and others. I'm trying to find out more info to get questions answered on the chassis details. Whose brakes and calipers were used, whose differential and suspension were used. UCC purchased Lone Star Classics a good while back and make their own flavor of the Cobra now. I contacted them and they were very nice and said they would help me out when I want to buy parts, great. I need to know what I have just to get service parts, brake pads wheel bearings and such. When I spoke to the new owner, he said they are not,...built for FE engines, only engines like a small block, 302, 351 ....I was shocked and sad !
I bought my 427 kit in 2000. The FE fit's, but a turkey pan will not ! Stupid ! :JEKYLHYDE Mine is actually very nice, but why not build a kit that most original parts will work ? The bodies and frames are very thick and stout. Other that, it's a great Cobra. Can you take photo's of your frame, suspention front spindel, brakes ect ? Is there a tag on your rearend ? Mine may be different than yours, being newer. Do you know what year it was built ? |

I have a loan star
Has a fe engine & toploader 4 speed I was told it was built in 16 |
No tag on the rear end. My guess from looking is an 8.8". Nice Try. One reason I believe it is a 8.8" is that the 427 has pretty much destroyed it, unless the autopsy reveals something else as the root cause. The engine is built hot and my guess from performance in this weight of car is it's boosting about 600HP at the rears. 8.8" are OK up to around 500HP if everything is perfect in the unit. Brake discs are about 10.5", solid rotor. Sliding calipers, looks like Ford stock but don't know. Pretty much a generic 4 link front and rear, coil over. Car will be going up on stands in a week or two and I'm going into the dark to probably just pull the whole damn rear end out. Throw it on the bench where I can tear it down. Do an autopsy on it. Will take pics as I can. Allen
