Yo from Long Gisland, NY

Anybody wanna cruise this summer on the island in our Cobras?

AdamIsAdam 12-23-2019 02:04 PM

I'm looking to buy a COBRA and would love to check out fellow long Islanders' cars

rcobrakit67 12-23-2019 05:35 PM

I'm getting my cobra inspected in two weeks. I'm hoping to have it registered soon!

I'd LOVE to hear and learn about the DMV process! Oh, and good luck!

rcobrakit67 12-24-2019 01:02 PM

So far it's been good I sent my paperwork to Albany a couple weeks ago. Within a week and a half I got a response. Two weeks later I had a date for the inspection. January 9th is the inspection ,I'll keep you posted. Richie

AdamIsAdam 12-24-2019 01:36 PM

Good luck. Please report back about your experience. Does your car have everything necessary, like defrost, backup lights... And is the engine and tranny new?

rcobrakit67 12-24-2019 06:53 PM

I have everything. I need to send a photo of the backup lights and padded visors,on top of the 4 photos they need for the application.

Any update with DMV?

I bought a FFR and hope to have it shipped here in a few weeks. Looking forward to meeting up with folks at Cap Tree/OBI or other cruises.

All went well with the inspection. The inspector was only concerned with any possible stolen parts. I had a picture of the engine serial # on my phone so he didn't have to even put it on a lift. The inspector said I should have had that #on the bill of sale, but understood. At least I had a written bill of sale. Since then I had the car safety inspected. Trust me ,when you pull up with a cobra ,the shop is more interested in checking out the cars cool factor. I had to answer a bunch of questions for the computer because it's never been in the system. Now I'm waiting to hear back from hagerty insurance to get the insurance policy. I already have a policy for my mustang with them . You just have to send them pictures of your paperwork for the vin #request and pictures of the car. Hopefully I'll have it this week and then off to the dmv. Richie

To insure a cobra with Hagerty you have to compete a High Performance Driving Resume. Yes, resume. And apparently things like my new GT350 aren't considered high performance enough at 526hp! They want to see that you've taken high performance driving classes too. Then an underwriter called me to discuss it...and finally approve me.

Back to your car... This is a first time registering it, right? I need to title a car from another state that's been through all the visual inspections so I'm hoping it's easier.

Where did you have to trailer the car to?
And where was the safety inspection?

Adam

rcobrakit67 01-26-2020 04:50 AM

Yeah they asked me if I had experience driving a high performance car. I'm waiting on the underwriters. The inspection shop is off Edison ave. In west Babylon. I rented a u haul trailer to bring it there. The safety inspection can be done at any registered inspection shop.

AdamIsAdam 01-26-2020 04:53 AM

Yea, the W. Babylon area is where I was told I had to go to. they handle salvage titles and as you said, mostly look for stolen parts.

My concern is that there is no VIN that I know of on the engine. It's supposedly a brand new Dart block, all new parts, assembled by the original owner. It passed WA state inspection and I have the receipts coming to me that show the state trooper stamps on all the receipts, so I'm hoping that's enough. But I do not think there's a number on the engine block.

I guess time will tell...

I sent you a PM.

rcobrakit67 01-26-2020 05:07 AM

I'm not sure about a dart block.
On a Windsor the # is right above the starter . I'll email you any contact info I have with the guys in Albany. They were very helpful.

Hall1836 01-27-2020 04:11 PM

Adam congrats on the car. If the car has been inspected and assigned a VIN # by the state that did the inspection you should have no problem with the engine number. They may have used the Dart Block number which is on the right side towards the back just below the heads. If he used a Dart block he should have a bill of sale. Car looked great in the photos you sent.

rcobrakit67 01-27-2020 05:05 PM

How come I didn't get any pictires, lol

I found out it's a Ford 302 block from the Fox body years, so no VIN used on them. Hopefully, I'll be ok taking all my paperwork proving the out state's inspection was done.
