Another new guy

Hey all from North Alabama. After a 30 year wait, I finally jumped in last July and ordered a new Backdraft from Car Cafe in Miami. I gotta give props to all of you that have built your own but after building hot rods and Harley's in the past, I decided I wanted to drive right away.

So I got an Iconic 427w in a ruby red with black Majic stripes beauty. That's backed up by a Tremec 5 speed and 3.56 rear end.

The motor had a hell of a hit with a Holley and a . 600 lift Comp Cam but I just had to have an 8 stack set up. Either Webers or injection. I was talked into the ease of the new EFIs these days. I went with Inglese and a Fast ecu and distributor. I love it even though it took some hit away, it added about 5 mpg and so much more street able. Looking forward to many miles and lots more good info from CC.

Welcome and congrats! Sounds like the colour combo that I really like from BDR so nice choice. You’d should post pics!

An 8 Stack is pure I candy. Welcome.

I know the color is far from the classic blue and white which I really like but it's my version of a modern classic. I'll post pix soon.

She’s a beauty! Yup that is the colour combo that has caught my eye and I am not a “red guy”. Those stacks look fantastic too, you chose right with the EFI.

Nice.

And you are able to drive and enjoy it today. Those who are looking for an unfinished, forgotten about kit and thinking they can build one for pennies should definitely look at this thread.

What a beauty!

They should more than look. They should take the advice. If your goal is to drive a cobra buy one already finished and broken in. If you love fabrication then by all means get a kit but recall there are other kits that won't burn your brain anything like a cobra. It has no straight lines or anything close to a flat surface. If you still insist on a kit get a new modern one from one of the reputable current manufacturers, avoid kits that have been stored in a garage since the manufacturer probably isn't in business any more and chances are high that the pile of parts on the garage floor has been owned by three people all of them gave up because of missing parts that can't be obtained any more (great if it isn't the case, but unlikely and you won't know until you've already passed GO and then it'll sit on your garage floor waiting for you to sell it to someone else.)

Great looking Cobra, congratulations.

welcome aboard.I have a 2013 dark blue with white stripes 427 carb. One word of advise if you find yourself entering a corner hot try holding the clutch in the car will rail.If not you may find your rear end coming around this all happens really fast. Ours motors have a lot of power even with small inputs from the skinny petal.I found letting off the gas can be just as bad . Be careful get used to the car and have fun.Remember there is a reason they call these car cobras they bite!

One more thing I see a orange hose in your pics I have vents but no ducting is that a new option or did you add it to your car. I assume that is for cooling your rotors.

TLHanna 08-01-2020 11:42 AM

Those are brake ducts. I got the vents to secure to the front from BDR and the duct hose from the local speed shop.
