I really shouldn't be here...

Hi, I'm Jim. I've been in love with Cobras since I was 17 (over 25 years). I don't have one, and am in no danger of getting one any time soon. I have one daughter in college and another in high school, and a toy car just doesn't fit into my budget right now. When daughter #2 gets out, maybe. I've been on these forums for years. Never posted, but learned alot. I spend most of my time on The Mustang Source, with the same userid. (I do have an '05 Mustang GT, which is "Shelbyized" a bit, but not a copy of anything.) I have spoken to several members of the Mile High Cobra Club here in the Denver area, who have all been very nice to me and encouraged me to join, but I'd feel dumb in a Mustang, and being around all those Cobras would just drive me nuts, knowing I don't have one. Which is why I really shouldn't be here and shouldn't start talking to you guys. But I am... Are there many of you like me who don't have a Cobra, but are so infatuated with the car that you constantly research it on the net? You've built all the models, collected the die-cast, put snakes on a real Mustang that shouldn't have them, and know when Carroll Shelby's birthday is? You realize that you could get a much nicer car with many more amenities and plenty of performance for much less money and you don't care? You feel dirty when you stop at a dealership just to look at a Corvette? You try to get excited by other cars which are more practical, but you just can't? That's me. I love Cobras, and there is really no logical reason why, but nothing else will ever measure up. I hope to get one some day, but for now, you can all just tease me with stories of how you're on your third one. Nice to meet ya, finally. :D

Sounds like you are a certified Cobra NUT! That's all you need to be here! Welcome! :)

Like any drug that has any punch, once you try it you may be hooked. There is no cure for this disease. Only a steady diet of unadulterated horsepower in a shaking, light body without amenities can curb the cravings....or kill you. :3DSMILE: Enjoy!

Mike is right. I built my original Cobra in 1999 and I still have it and have no intentions of ever selling it because it is THE ONE. Not the best copy, not the most horsepower, and certainly not the most pristeen but this Cobra has a special place in my life and God willing I will be able to keep it.

I have had offers to do other Cobra's and even a very genereous offer to trade mine up for a newer model with all the new mods. Just not interested.
It is a sickness that started when I was about 12 or so and the cure is ownership.

I am building a Daytona Coupe now and it will be very nice when I am finished but it will never replace my Cobra.

Mind messing car!

This car is a mind mess'er! It will make you think/do things other cars can't. A Cobra is the pinnacle for me, there is no 'up' from here.

A few weeks ago I took the Cobra by the local Ford dealership to show it off. I went there to get something for my F250 truck. The Cobra was met with "ough's & ah's" and great accolade. Of course they're all Ford guys.:)

On the way home I stopped at the Dodge dealer in the same auto-mall, to look at Vipers!

I'm sure at least a couple of the salesmen got fired. They just surrounded the Cobra.;)

I told the one that showed me the Viper that & was thinking of 'economizing' by downgrading to a Viper. Left him 'speechless', & that's hard to do to a car salesman!

It was some of the most fun I've had with my Cobra!:D

I'm going to suggest at the next monthly meeting of the NorCal Cobra Club that our next 'drive' include a stop at the Chevy dealership to 'test drive' Corvette's! I can see it now a dozen Cobra drivers pull in and drive out in a dozen new Corvette's!

That would be some fun!:D

P.S. Welcome Jim, we're glad your here. The first step to recovery is accepting that you have a problem. Congratulations and good luck with the next step!%/

The Mile Hi Cobra Club is about having fun with cars, the Cobras are just a bonus. We have a bunch of members that don't have Cobras so you won't be the only one. I am currently working on a Mustang for cruises so that the kids can come along.

Since your in Denver you should go to the Shelby Museum in Boulder.
Open 1 day a week. Google it up. Nice close up displays that will show you what triggered these obsessions.

Why not? We have other members who don't own Cobras. And some that have them under construction or undergoing upgrades/repairs. Last club outing we had was to the Mathews car collection; only 2-3 CObras were there. In our club the Cobra is the passion, but the people are the point.

Come on in - the water's fine!

Thanks for making me feel welcome. Maybe I do belong here. Maybe I'll look up the MHCC as well. I KNOW I've got the problem. I was just hoping that avoiding the cause would cure it. (like smoking, ya know?) Maybe if I just spend some time around the cars, I'll decide I don't really like them afterall, and I'll be free of the torment. Okay, not likely. I'll probably end up trying to sell my house, or a kid, in order to get one. I have actually been to the museum in Boulder, and just sent in my ticket request for the fund-raising event in December featuring Carroll and several original drivers. I was told that Carroll would not go outside to sign a car, so I'll have to figure out how to bring a part in to him. Looking forward to participating here...

Downgrading to a viper! That's funny...
