dumb newbie question

I'm sure it's been asked a zillion times already, so here's a zillion and one...

I've always thought the cobra body is one of the classiest american hotrods ever, with maybe the exception of the 58 vette
that being said, I just had a 89 mustang gt 5.0 HO 5spd fall in my lap for next to nothing. it's a driver with body damage, sounds healthy
I see some kits out there that are for "mustang donors"
I don't need 5 or 6 (or more)hundred ponies to play with, I just want to build a cool looking toy, and thought I might have found a good building block to start with
am I starting off with a flawed assumption?
I would expect to research at least a year before I bought anything or started a build, this is day one, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere

thanks in advance for any tips, hints suggestions and or (constructive)criticisms of my newly formed plan

No, absolutly not! Have fun looking around here and with all the stuff you already have you may want to start with Factory Five and work from there.

Hope that helps, Steve

Bart,

Where are you located?

Find a local club and go for rides, talk to owners/builders, touch, listen, etc at all the different cars out there.

Welcome Bart! Great to see when people find CC BEFORE they jump into something that they regret or costs them a boatload of money to make right.

Chris is right on. Go check out the cars and see what is going to fit your vision of what you want. The Mustang is probably perfect for a donor FFR, but there's also a bunch of great deals out there on used Cobras.

Good luck!

thanks for the replies

I'm in the middle of nowhere Montana, so far I don't know of any clubs, but I'll begin looking with greater effort

and as far as used... I'm not really interested, but thanks for the suggestion
I really want to build this one, it's been a while and will be a great experience to share with my sons (as long as I keep the keys in my safe after it's done :) )

When I was looking I talked to a guy in Dillon who built race Cobras. I don't know if he's still around but it might be a good starting point.
