Sorry for not responding back tosome of you guys...

- The care sounds like a British sports car because of the custom header and the supercharger
- Status of the DMV experience: Went into the DMV with the IN title and bill of sale. Lady gave me a temorary registration and license and indicated that the car is a 1964 Ford Cobra and would get "classis car" plates. Is this good? Either way, I'm brining the car in for a VIN check and hopefully walk away registered and licensed. Am I missing something??? Everyone said the process would be unvearable...

Take care!

Wow! I guess they revamped their comp registration process. Definitely get the vintage plates, as they will cut you property tax assessment to $500 max, which spells a tax bill of about $25. Good luck getting by the inspector.

I sense from your response about "getting by the inspector" that I am missing an angle here. I thought it was only a VIN check that had to take place? Is there more to it?

Any events coming up in the area? After I get plates I am off and running!

Post after you get the VIN check... that's where it all begins.

I would rather have my wisdom teeth removed again than go back to Weathersfield. Some times it goes nice nice, and sometimes it's like going to Hell.

I'm not sure if you still have to flatbed to the inspection. Good luck. Have all your paperwork!

If you've got the temp registration, you can drive it. The inspectors will know the difference between a '65 Cobra and a composite/kit car. Good luck.

Default Registeration

Ok guys, after installing the e-brake and wiper motor and finally getting the car back on the road, I took it to the Weth DMV a couple of weeks ago.

I paid over $200 to get the care towed, waited in line for over 1.5 yrs, I finally entered the bay, and they told me that the garage was closed and I would have to come back another day. I was pretty peed off after hearing that (and paying a total of $200 for towing to/from house).

I decided to take the entire day off the following Monday and arrive at 8am when the inspection office opened. I waited all of 5 minutes, got waived in, and within 30 min I was out and passed. I personally think the inspector ( a lady and older grey haired gentlemen) felt bad that they told me to go home the Friday prior. They were actually very pleasant to talk with and fairly knowledgeable about the process...

In any event, I would suggest that people:

- Go early for inspections
- Have all their paperwork ready to go
- Make sure you have working wipers, e-brake, horn and brakes

By the way, I had no bumpers and my exhaust was cut way short of the back of the door.

Overall, pretty miserable experience at the outset, but I am very happy that the inspectors were reasonable people and had a heart.

Anyone in CT interested in a ride in the 30 degree weather????

Trader 1, some CC links which may be of assistance in the inspection/registration process:

The model year Composite registration law was passed as of Oct 1, but the DMV web sites have not been updated. The experience posted by RENEW 1 will explain. However, the Cobra kit/replica car is still referred to as a Composite. The emissions exemption is still in effect is based upon the make designation of Composite
