Great Job. Glad you were able to reboot this project.

RestoCreations 01-01-2011 10:58 AM

Do you already have the parts from Kirkham? If not, they posted some body pieces in the scratch and dent sale that might help you out tremendously.

Great job Motorhead. What red did you use?

MOTORHEAD 07-17-2011 12:03 PM

Ross: It's Glasurit paint. Told the shop to match what was on it, so it's a custom mix.
I can get the mix # if you want>

Time to re-boot again! It's been a year since the body and paint were done, but I had to set the project aside again until about 3 months ago when I was able to get on it again for what I hope will be the final assembly !
I have gotten quite a bit done and I'll post new pics soon. Have been having computer problems , so please be patient!

lovely car - enjoyed looking at the pics.

I am just starting to worry about drilling the grommet holes on the firewall on my car for the capillaries etc, and i think those on the kirkham are pretty accurrate. I wonder if you'd be able to tell me which grommet hole on your firewall is used for which capillary/speedo/line etc?

ng8264723 01-29-2013 11:30 PM

Nice car! I have a question. Behind the dipstick there is a rubber hose where does that go?

A98Coupe 01-30-2013 05:49 AM

Motorhead,

Great story and pleased you managed to save a car that might have been scrapped! About the engine, you said you rebuilt it. How much of it was re-used considering the extensive fire damage on the rest of the car? Also, do you know the cause of the fire? Electrical or fuel leak? Might be some good advice for everyone to ensure the same catastrophy doesn't occur on other Cobras

Thanks guys for the kind words. Test run yesterday was successful, but showed a few minor problems ( alt inop, etc)
Kevin: as to your query I have included a couple of pics. I went by the harness I got from kirkham 12 years ago and the holes in the new and old firewall pieces. A lot had to be re-routed to come up with what looked good to me. The speedo cable went thru the hole just ahead of the speedo as there was no room to bend it to go anywhere else. Not all cables are routed/tyed in there final positions.

NG: hose goes to air/oil separator(puke tank) as a return line for breather oil.

A98: only internal engine parts damaged by the fire were 2 cyl liners that were corroded by the fire exting. All else was reusable and like new ( 478 mi since new) New brgs, rings, valve seals, much cleaning, block testing, etc. Changed out 4 bbl for webers, new alum f'wheel, new damper.
