You have a great story, it's almost exactly the same as mine about 8 months ago.

As per the rust. I highly recommend stripping the frame - having it sand blasted to bare metal - and then checking all of the angles and levels. We ended up cutting the car apart and then putting most of it back together again - but the end result is pretty nice and we then had it painted with a high solid epoxy black paint. Looks pretty good.

A little update: The new intake manifold has finally arrived along with the Electromotive Ignition system. The engine builder has been finished with the engine for some time but now has the intake and ignition. He is also supplying a fresh rebuilt tranny and as soon as he has it all together then I will bring it all home and really get rolling with this project. So stay tuned.

I spent a good part of the day today coating the chassis with POR-15 and then painting the whole chassis with black paint. Here are a few pics:
