Yeah I am not really sure which direction to take with the power steering yet. I was trying to find information last night on using a hydroboost setup. I've seen some setup but they are for trucks. If I could incorporate a hydroboost setup, then I may change my mind.

They seem much more firm and easier to modulate than the vacuum-assisted brakes they replaced. What PS pump did you use? I would imagine this is a custom bracket. |

It's almost as much fun as the Cobra ;-) Set up for road racing. I used a stock Mustang (199? vintage) pump. It works fine. Possibly your crank-mounted pump would be OK. I do use a small oil cooler in the return line from the rack to the pump. It was necessary due to the track use. For street you might not need it, but I'd recommend one just to be safe. A small update on my project. I pulled my dads 36 Mercedes out of the garage to get the frame out from where he had it stored. Removed a bunch of junk off the frame and realized that he put the rear end back together. Thanks Dad! :D He must of done this before heading to Georgia for his transplant. I guess all I have to do is remove it from the frame, get it cleaned up, and paint it.
After I get this cleaned up, what do you guys recommend for paint? I kinda like the hammered or textured look. Not sure who makes a durable paint for this. I know there is rustoleum but I would rather have something rock hard like POR-15 |

My dad bought another one of these Benz kits. He bought it complete for $1500 with the intentions that if anything ever happened to this white one, he would have it for parts. Well... I would almost think it would be fitting to put a turbo diesel in it. So maybe after this Cobra is done I can start on the next Benz.

Neos were all the rage about 20 years ago, now you can't find them much anymore. Yours looks like it could use some work on the frame and particularly the differential area, but if you take the time to do it right and use the right products you may be able to will it to your son like your dad did for you. They never really go out of style, just out of favor. Take a look at some of the Kit Car shows...you'll see a lot of nice neos, many of which may not look as nice as that one. Your dad really had some cool stuff goin' on in his head! Turbo diesel? Maybe...but if it were me and I were doing a neo-Classic, I'd try to do something like the car came with originally. Did those old Mercedes come with inline 8's, V-8s, V-12s...or did Mercedes have an diesel option back then? Is that a 500K? No matter what it is, it's WAAAAY COOL! Cheers! Dugly :cool: |

I was not very clear in the reply with pictures. Yes, the Mercedes is a 36 500k. The picture of the frame with differential is the frame for the Cobra. I am trying to make room in the garage to work on it and that is why the Benz was moved out.

I am late to this thread. Sorry for your loss. I am working on a SB kit right now also and I have been using the Okie guys for great help. I have had the car about 2.5 years and am getting close to completion. My issue right now is getting a MCO/MSO so I can title the car in Texas. The guy I bought it from did not have his paperwork from SB. The kit was very complete, but missing a couple things here and there. A couple things: The coil overs that came with the kit are not long enough and will not work (at least mine were). I order some new 1s The doors are going to be an issue for sure and my tube was warped from sitting so long in the Texas heat. Electrical will be easy with a standard GM harness I would upgrade the stock 4 link with new bushings. Thats all i can think of right now. Its been a while since I have been on here. Been busy with life. I decided to go a different route with the engine. I am going with a 4.6 dohc out of a 97 Mark VIII. I really fought with this decision but I think in the end it will make more sense.
