Paint & Bodywork

For those of you that built your Cobra's how much did it cost to have the paint and bodywork done? I've heard anywhere from $5,000 to $12-14,000  and it may depend on where you live ect. Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks.

really depends how the body is now. Show or driver quality results ? Location can really effect the price also.

More familiar with old Corvettes but I would say that range is about right for a fiberglass car. Even the best fiberglass needs tons of blocking, priming, more blocking, gaping panels, guide coating, etc. The $12,000 to 14,000 range though should be an absolutely perfect show car with serious detailing - either that or a rip off artist. Cobras are pretty small bodies and surface area. A friend of mine just had a 63 Galaxie painted (he did most of the metal work) and receipts at the shop were about $15k for a very nice paint job but not absolutely the best. But that car had a ton of surface area to apply filler, primer and paint to.

I prepped and painted my car and never tried to add up the receipts for the work. I had not shot urethane before so I had to buy a breathing air compressor & mask, rig up a paint booth with lighting and air exchange, etc which ran my cost up a bit. But I had a lot of body work tools left over from older lacquer paint work I had done. I borrowed a big compressor from someone. Even so, I would be surprised if my out of pocket costs (no labor) were much less than $5,000. Paintwork is not inexpensive anymore.
