It say's its a replica in the header under the picture. It's listed under Shelby to stumble into the type of people that enjoy and buy the real deal and the replica's.

Why ya want to give Ray a hard time?. Any rube on the planet knows you ain't gonna get a "real" Daytona for $37K.The cats a privateer, and if the old grouch wants to sue him , let him try. I know for a fact that the R+D body on Ray's car wasn't splashed from an original.Plenty of the big MFG,s bodys were(coupe and roadster) some even admit it!!! Give ol' Ray a break.

Well it's nice to see that Mr Bruce gave me a break! The car is a R&D Body with a modified LA exotic upgraded frame to fit that car. I would be glad to give any one interested all the specs if they want to email me. The car presents it's self well and fits taller people because of the changes I have done. If you want a nice track/ street car this one would fit the bill. Thanks for all the replies, at least you guy's are reading my post. Ray

I just got into this Replica car thing recently. I am very happy with my SPF Cobra. I have been amazed at the near animosity I have heard and seen surrounding these cars. Best of luck again.

The first thing I look for in an ad like this is the manufacturer. When I saw Maker: Shelby American, what else could I assume? We shouldn't have to search for the truth in an ad. My vision must be getting pretty poor, because I didn't even notice the "replica" caveat, but then again, I was searching for the actual name of the manufacturer.

Shelby doesn't like people with replicas referring to them as "Shelbys" and I don't blame him. It devalues the original cars by making the origin of every car ambiguous except to the experienced.

As I said I am new to the Replica scene. I am wondering if you can shed any light on why Mr.Shelby has decided to sue some of the Replica manufacturers. I ask because of your unique position within the industry.

My observations on the issue so far:
Virtually everyone includes the names Shelby and/or Cobra in their ads somewhere. This includes Replica manufacturers and individuals selling cars. Yes, the Replica manufacturers usually have a disclaimer.

Mr.Shelby has been aware of the Replica industry and the use of the names Shelby and Cobra for many many years. He has also been aware of the use of the general shape of the original Cobras. In some cases the exact shape.

For all those years he never did or said anything to protect any rights he feels he has or had.

I am not trying to take sides. Like I said in my previous post, the strength of the feelings expressed has caught me by surprise. I mean, an Original is an Original, and anything else is a Replica. How can a Replica hurt the Original? Many Replica owners get downright defensive when they have to say to someone, "No, it is not an Original. It is a Replica." It seems to me that the more Cobras there are, the more people will be interested in them and the value of the Original will increase.

Those who want and can afford an Original are not the same people who are the buyers of the Replicas. You buy them for different reasons. Or am I just being naive?

Jim, I suspect Mr. Shelby is just chapped about the fact that many of the replicas out there have a stiffer chassis, better suspension. better brakes and more performance than his originals. In many ways , that's also true with respect to his continuation cars-- who's going to pay $150,000 for a transverse leaf-spring FIA, even with Shelby's name on it, when they can get a better handling and performing twin from ERA or Unique for less than a third of that? Apparently, not many people. And that's what's at the heart of this-- it's not the originals and their sacred memory that Shelby is worried about. It's his over-priced continuation models, which are not moving well and which he never would have even thought of producing if he hadn't seen how well the replicas were doing. The replica manufacturers created the market, and now he wants it, period. As usual, it's not about artistic purity, it's about money.

Well, anyone for whom it's so important to have Shelby's name on the car, surely would want the aluminum body and all possible genuine reproduction Shelby options, yes? Plus it has to be screwed together and painted by his highly-skilled and compensated craftsmen as only they can do it. Let's see... with shipping and handling and sales tax, that would come to...a whole lot more than it's worth.--maybe not 150, but not a whole lot less.

Like $50,000 less. **)
