have a superformance on order--late may delivery. i live in minnesota. looking for advice on how to register car as a 1965.
have heard minnesota is tough to do so . my dad lives in south dakota--might be a option to register there.

also undecided on small blockvs big block.---not a track racer.
leaning tword 392 crate motor. comments?

Steve,

We have a Superperformance here that the man put a 351 crate motor in and just loves it. You will here all kinds of arguments about big blocks versus small blocks. I have one of each and far pefer the small block 351 as I like road racing and it will run circles around the big block 439 NASCAR engine. That weight up front is ok for straight line accleration but handling on sharp curves is something else. As for horsepower you can get the crate engines in about any range you want. One man has 345 horsepower and around 340 pounds of torque and that is really a great car. Another has around 425 horse with about 380 pounds torque and it is faster and still drives great. I have 520-530 horse and 515 pounds of torque and it is fast but not great for crusing around town for long.

I have researching Cobras lately, and came across the same question about registration as a '65 Cobra. Try contacting Dan Hardiman (903) 597-5700, or e-mail dhardiman@prodigy.net; he has a SFP registered that way.
As one golden gopher to another, I thought I would pass this along.

Steve, I am currently trying to get my hands on the right one, I've been on the computer all week looking. I may end up doing what you are, and just put together a SPF. Then I've got the same question; 427 vs. 351. If I was to do the 351, I would go with the One lap around America 392 stroker motor. Almost as much HP as a 427 SO, but lighter and better handling, so I've heard. Also check out Dave Lovejoy's 351/427; a great look. You can find in under the superformance pictures.

I live about 5 miles west of you, and could convince you, via seat of the pants, that even a 351W is plenty for a car this light. I can also share my registration story with you and save you alot of time and money. Minnesota, land of 10,000 rules....

I don't know if this will help or not but I live in Iowa and tracked down the owner of a Cobra I'd seen running around Des Moines. I know for a fact that his registration says 1965 Shelby Cobra 427, and it has a FFR vin. It is classified as an antique. I can try and find out wha he had to do to get that if you like.
