cobra transportation

Hello,

OK, I started to really get serious here about getting my dream car and having it here for the summer and fall to show around. I have seen several cars that I really like on the internet, but I have concerns about how much it will cost to get it here (obviously location is a point here..I am in Tulsa), who does it, etc. That appears to me to be a factor that I will need to apply to the purchase price, but I really have no good estimates of what it would go for. I talked to a few of the bigger moving companies, and basically they won't quote a price with out a bunch of information that I don't have..like weight and where it is coming from (since I haven't picked one out yet). I am sure that this has come up before, but any help is really appreciated.

I'm in Hawaii, you think YOU got a shipping problem??? LOL

I figure 1500-2000 depending on where the car is to get it here. I suspect, from talking to others, "mainland" worst case shipping $$ are in the 500 to 1000 range. I'd like to "buy" from Calif. myself, but won't let the shipping charges stand in the way of the CAR I want IF the price is OK.

Buzzmobile,
Being as centrally located as you are, transportation should be very low in your list of checks before you buy.

I would highly recommend buying one of the cars advertised in here or on Cobra Country. Most likely when you discuss the car you are looking at, someone in here will know who the car belongs to and can give you more information than the owner is willing to. There are Cobra groups near you and in here.

The car more than likely belongs to one of the members. When you find out who it is, you may do a search under their name and get a pretty extensive rundown of the car and the owner. Who built it, where was it driven where did it go, and so forth.

On the Internet (eBay) you may be buying xomething that is not known by others.

When I had my car up for sale, my claims to what the car is or was could have been verified by my previous posts about the car. I couldn't easily claim it was something it wasn't.

Like I said, transportation will add $0.00 to $1500.00 most to the final price of the car. Very low priority in selecting the car of your dreams.

Good luck

Intercity Lines shipped our ERA (which was in about 20 pieces) from Conn. to Indianapolis for around 800. It was going to be around 650 to rent a uhaul one way, so I would say it was a pretty good deal.

several transport companies are listed in services section of Hemmings Motor News each month. Many of them have already been listed by other respondents here. In the scheme of things, the transpo cost of your car is a small piece of the big dollar puzzle.

In jan i had a recently purchased classic car transported from Denver to Detroit, 1300 miles and cost bids ran from $850 to $1500 . Some promised immediate delivery, others said 'it will take us up to 2 wks to mix a load going your way'. I opted for the immediate delivery and paid more. Why ? easy, i had paid for the car and did not want it sitting at someone else's place for 2 weeks.

I used Rich Lacey who is a CC advertiser (rich's transportation). paid more than several other quotoes , but had my car delivered in 4 days from day of purchase ! fortunately for me rich was in denver area at the time coincidentally with a space open on his trailer.

i was pleased with rich lacey, who with his brother, do an 'as promised' delivery schedule....i have friends who used intercity and reliable, but had to wait for laod make up, delivery was fine, but there was a time delay.

with your location you should be able to buy a car anywhere and not spend more than $1500 in transportation costs, maybe less. go4it. bill

Intercitylines.com

Free quote. All they need is pick up and drop off location and what they are hauling. Quote arrives in 24 hrs. I have gotten quotes but have not used them yet.

Intercity Lines

I shipped my SPF from Mich to Ca. Cost was just under $1400. Took about 15 days from when I said it would be ready to when they picked it up and another 6 to get it to Ca. Car showed up in perfect condition. Driver wore little cotton gloves when handling the car. Would recommend them to anyone.

I have to put another plug in for Rich Lacey of Riches Classic Transport.
Possibly not the cheapest by the mile, but your car could not be in better hands. I truly felt that Rich was treating my car as if it were his own. His arrival and delivery times were dead on. Took the time to see to it that my car was safe and secure at the port of Tacoma, in my absence. Even the foreman @ the Port commented to me over the phone that Rich had "gone the extra mile".

Great thread! This is good stuff!

Not my original post, but I'm wondering the same thing about who to use for shipping.

I'm considering buying a trailer. I've been looking around for an enclosed trailer, around 24' and 10k lbs gvwr, and it seems that new they're around $6k. If you can find a decent used one, they seem to be pretty close to the price of new.

And I can always use the trailer as an 8th garage!

Wow! I'll have to get them to ship my Kirkham!;) :3DSMILE:

I have to say that Rich did not respond to my last (and only) email that I sent to him and I am not sure if it because I was considering something other than a Cobra. But I will say a nonresponse has a bit of a negative conotation in my mind. I have no experience with him, but just a casual response would have been helpful at the time.

Howard Bosworth 04-03-2003 07:55 PM

I have met Rich Lacy and would use him if needed. Advertises here on the forum also. Call him.
