Who is Contemporary Classic Motor Car, Inc
Does anyone know anything about cobras made by Contemporary Classic Motor Cars, Inc ? I am unable to find any information about the quality or reputation of these cars. Can anyone of you enthusiast enlighten me about this manufacture? Will a 454 make this car undesirable?

The better question would be....
Who was Contemporary classics? They went out of buisness in the late 90's I believe but their cars were considered to be some of the best and most "correct" looking of the mfg's. My car is very solid, strong frame,excellent quality body and the interior looks right. the guy who built it did a few things different than I would have but that will change. Overall I would say if you can find a good one and you like it don't hesitate because they are no longer in buisness. Parts can still be had or made by a couple of guys out there who used to build them. There are plenty of Contemporary owners here that could give you better info as I am a realativly new contemporary owner but I am having a blast with mine. Have a good one, Dan |

Contemporary was started "79" I think, and went out of biz in the late 90's after being sold . contemporary's are in my opinion (and many others) in the top two or three replica manufacturers ( before Kirkham came along) . The body molds were splashed off an original 427 cobra, so the looks and fit are very accurate. they also use the 4" tube frame and jag suspension. most of the Contemporary's I have looked at were built in the 80's or very early 90'S when FE parts were not so rare and $$$ consequently most are fitted with top loaders, 427's and 428's. Most Contemporary's are composed of top shelf components, but beware of the build up , as many were home constructed ,and I have seen some pretty poor work on a couple. There was a wide variety of brake parts and lower rear controll arms used as well, I would not buy any thing with cut and rewelded lower control arms and axles. Either get the e-type axles and control arms (very typical of the earliar cars) or get the billet / tube set up from Accurate machine or Concourse west. There are pages of great thing to say about them , i'll leave that and any criticism to someone else . good luck KK |

And if I'm not mistaken, Factory Five owns the molds and you can get replacement panels if necessary.

I wanted to say 79 but all of the original documentation I have is dated 82 or later.........Guess that's when I started getting serious about these damn things...........

I own a Contemporary and have been overall very pleased with the solid frame and overall originality%/ . With that said I did not like the pedal assembly that came on the car and have completely reworked the brake system. Body, Rear end, etc. Besides ERA, Kirkham and very few others will have all the top shelf components like KK mentioned. Mine came with the Six-pin Trigo wheels, 427 SO, E-trype rear, Chrome moly half shafts, etc.
