CSX 4148 for sale

Hi All,

Ebay has listed CSX 4148 for sale. It is an aluminum bodied car that looks and sounds like a nice car (from the description). Does anyone have any info about it? Even your opinion is welcome. What do you think a fair price for this car is?

Thanks.

Chris

I noticed it also the other day. I believe the bidding is a little over $80,000 now. You might want to ask Turk about the car (since it mentions he had some involement in it's assembly).

thanks for the reply jim. How do I ask Turk?

750hp 12-15-2003 01:39 PM

...more than a little involvement - he built it! This is a well-known ClubCobra car. Turk built it (no expense spared), then traded it for a Porsche 930 and another unfinished CSX4000 car. The good doctor has taken great car of it, and here it is on Ebay.

If I were a betting man, I'd guess Dr Dan would be looking for $100K+. It's worth it just for the CC forum contributions to the car: Turk, Kris, Dr Dan, George @ Gessford, CS' sig..... With that heritage, it can't help but sell for big $$$. :)

Turk will no do doubt read this, but here is how to get hold of him : http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/memb...fo&userid=9686

And the seller : http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/memb...o&userid=10241

Thank you very much. I really appreciate the help. I am seriously looking for a Cobra, and this one definitely looks good.

The Turk'mobile. Very, VERY nice car. I didn't even know what the heck was going on. One day there is Turk and the CSX and then there is Turk in the 930 (that is another story) and Dan in the CSX. Thought I was seeing things.

If you keep saying his name, Turk will show up here. What is that urban legend about saying the names three times?

Turk. TURK. TUR...................................

Dan Semko is the current owner. Also lurking around here some where. Both good guys and straight shooters (sound of choking).

That was my car.
I can help provide extensive information if you are interested in that car. It has everything documented and has a very colorful history.
Contact the seller,(Dr.Dan Semko) and he can provide you with information on how to reach me.

mystery

Why are there multiple owners with these aluminum Kirkham Cobras in such a
short period of time?" They seem like nice cars, I don't understand it."
Why sell?

KobraKarl 12-15-2003 09:39 PM

I think one raw alloy owner described a sunny day out for a drive as a "satay".....:D

hodkey,
I don't know how many aluminum car owners you are referring to.
I sold my CSX4148 to Dan, who already owns an SPF. He sold me his CSX4308 which I still own.
Rest of the people I know who bought a CSX or a Kirkham aluminum cars still have them,at least in my small circle of friends.

The other one I know for sale is the one someone won with a raffle ticket. It may not have been his choice of a car, and he probably already owned another Cobra.
Two Cobras in one garage maybe too many. Unless your name is Dan Semko.

There really is not that much selling going on. Lot of buying IS.

Bingo,
I'm here! You're right about this car having a 'colorful" history but the best part is that it's SB100 approved already, thanks to Turk.
The car is absolutely wonderful and considering the special attention that Kris Kinkaid from Shelby American, Turk, Pat Buckley and a score of others have invested, it's as close to original and perfect as they come. The best part is that it can be left in it's current brushed finish, since it's now sealed from oxidation, or it can be easily prepped for whatever color you desire. I just pulled the ebay ad this evening because the calls were becoming overwhelming. If you're seriously interested, drop me a note at:
sudans@infocom.com.
Please title it as "cobra questions" so my firewall doesn't trash it.

Dr. Dan- How did you seal it? Did you use ZoopSeal? How did it work out?

That's exactly what I used except I Scotchbrited it first then polished it with Zainos afterwards. I didn't use the acid prewash. What I learned was that less is better, so when you apply it, do it sparingly.
It's worth the effort and makes routine cleaning as easy as painted cars.

hodgey 12-16-2003 08:12 PM

I see Kirkams for sale on Ebay, cobracountry, and hemmings, quite often. I recently saw one come up on Ebay that I thought was used but suprisely it was being sold as unfinished directly from the manufacturer. Not sure if it met reserve or not. Also, not sure if maybe they are just trying to move some merchandise or someone backed out on a brandnew roller at the last minute and the maker wanted to recoupe some quick cash or something. Thoughts gentlemen? Beam me up Scotty.

Dan Semko 12-16-2003 08:23 PM

I think they're just using ebay as a marketing tool and calculate what similar advertising would cost in national auto mags. Sometimes they fare well other times the bidder cleans their clocks.
You don't see many alloy CSX's available because everyone knows that they'll appreciate with time. Most alloy CSX's with 427's are currently appraised around $139k. It shocked me too, so I called the "New Jersey guru", Evan who confirmed that his CSX was recently appraised around the same amount.

Dan Semko 12-18-2003 09:41 AM

For those that have recently sent e-mails inquiring about the CSX.
It's still available and the no haggle, no dance, rock bottom price is $124k.
Like Turk says: "you can buy cheaper but you cannot buy or build better" And who are we to question the Mediterranean Love God?;)
