Lookin' For My First.

Hey Guys ,
Sitting here in South Texas looking for my first Cobra. I understand that as a newbie I probably shouldn't be looking at the Big Blocks, but I am. Any advice, Manufactures to watch out for, 427 Vs 428scj? Been in love with these cars all my life. I'd really appreciate any input. Thanks

Royce

I would say dont rush, be a smart buyer. Buy from a quality maker with a good rep if they wont give you references like customers in your area you can call to see if they are happy then go somewhere else.
Big blocks are fine and the Ford 460 is a very affordable way to go (junk yards are full of them) If you get the FE fever and you must have a 427 side oiler be prepared to bend over; every yokal and his cousin who has 427 parts want ludicrus money, otherwise the 428 and the 390 are fine FE's and they are easy to find. The small block cobra is awesome fun and you can make impressive power with a 302 or a 351, and parts are falling off the tree's.
I would say find the car manufacturer you trust and sit in his car, heck sit in as many different makes as you can. Only after you sample how really different they are will you find you favorite ride. I would also reccomend finding a club or group of folks who have cobras and hang out they can be a huge help when the situation gets weird and you need build advice.
Build your own car! know every nut and bolt have pride in what you put together, I get so many check book hotrodders comming in to get simple stuff fixed because they are afraid of there car they think they will brake it worse because they didnt build it in the first place.
Lastly have fun! some folks take this way to seriously they have clicks and if you dont have a specific manufacturer or if you car isnt aluminum they look down on you dont fall into that trap have fun love your car and help other with theirs.
I hope this helps and if ya need more advice Im sure most of the people here are more than willing.
