Cobra Wanted In CA
Hello everyone,
I am a newbie living in Southern California. This is my first post although I have been reading this forum for a while. I'm looking to buy my first used cobra replica for around 20K-30K. I would like to find something nice looking, fast enough for the street (no racing), maybe a 302 with manuel trans. I prefer red with white stripes, lots of chrome (sidepipes, rollbar, etc.), CA smog exempt is a must. I would appreciate any comments, information, & suggestions. Does anyone know of a good showroom in my area where I may find some Cobras to look at, sit in, & maybe even drive!?!?. Thank you in advance for any responces. UK RUSS, ;) |

This won't help, but maybe.....
UK Russ,
This won't help you get that Cobra, but we have a get together every other month for all the Cobra owners and enthusiasts in the general area... We call ourselves, "Tri-County Cobras", but nothing is formal... No dues, newsletters, ETC.... We usually meet @ Hudson's Bar & Grill on Telephone & 101 Fwy in Ventura... The next get together is June 5 around 11 AM... John Wais, our informal leader, usually posts all the details on this forum a week in advance... We usually turn out 20-25 Cobras, all makes and vintages, shoot the bull, have lunch, and sometimes tour around the area... Its a good source of info and everyone is invited... Ownership is not required... I'll miss this one as I'll be at the Fords @ Carlisle Show"... Good luck and hope to see you soon.... John, did I miss anything??? spotter dude  |
no, I have to be honest, the 3 or so years I have owned the car I havent even registered it yet. I wasnt quite sure how I wanted it registered. I did go to the DMV and pay all the fees, etc. Then I went to the smog referee, they said it would smog with the stock parts off the car the engine originally came in.(71 Torino) Which is just a thermo air cleaner and a charcoal canister. But,, if I were to ever change the engine ( to a F.E.) I would have to put in for a non original engine swap form... It sounded like lots of BS from the smog Nazis to me.........So, I think the best way to deal with the whole situation is to get it registered as a 66 Ford. Theres lots of ways to do that,, I just havent been using the car so I havent gotten around to it.
Sorry for the late reply. Dave |
