Interesting. You may be part of a group of people that are honest, but generally it's a mine field out there when one is looking at classic or classic muscle cars. As you have posted, a real 1970 Chevelle SS 454 is worth a ton of money at this time. Now, lots of people are taking old Chevelles - especially 396's, adding the 454 engine and other stuff - probably ending up - in some cases - with something faster and better than the original, but it's the original that has the market value and all the others one has to simply worry about when in the buying mode.

It's to bad that there is not a way or an entity that can certify altered cars - assess the work done, driveability, etc. as lots of people seem to think they know what they are doing but few people actually know. You just may be one of those people in the know.

speaking of that did you see the ls6 70ss454 sell at auction this weekend for over $300,000? yep, those cars are worth a ton... as for mine i do have the build sheet proving it's an SS car which makes about a 10k difference in the price...

chev-hell 02-14-2005 08:47 PM

well, i have a pending deal with Tom lets hope..... hopefully in a few weeks ill be an offical cobra owner although at the cost of my chevelle ( you should hear the wife and kids aready giving me crap about giving up the velle) anyway, i think i can show em how much fun a cobra can be..... now i just have to school myself on them...... :)

chev-hell 02-16-2005 04:00 PM

The car was a frame-off restore/restomod 10 yrs ago, i daily drove it for 3 yrs, the had it re-painted and garaged ever since, installed new engine/tranny/interior/trunk area w/stereo system etc. (basicly another frame-on restore) the car looks fairly stock, but has ALL the goodies youd' want on a streetrod, I bought it 6yrs ago for 10k, the guy had over 25k invested, since then i've invested probably another 15k into the car... it's a driver/showcar but not a perfect car, i know all the flaws, most people will never see them. the engine compartment could be re-shot black as it has some places that are showing wear, and the trunk jam needs to be shot over again. the rear bumper is not great either, but again im nit-picking the car... the cowl induction flapper door works, but the vac. pod is bad (these go bad ez and the repops are terrible quality)... the under carriage is black/painted with no rust.... a bit dirty from driving it but cleans up fine... the motor leaks a bit of oil here and there, but it's sometimes hard to get an aftermarket crank to seal properly..... this is a NICE NICE chevelle.... and i don't take short-cuts...
the trunk area is 1 great part, the fuel cell is "sunk" into the floor with NO lines showing, the amplifiers are "sunk" into the front wall with no wiring showing, the sides are walled up flat and carpeted also... i'll take some good new pics this coming week...

I'd prefer a silver/black striped cobra... a stock fuel injected 302 is fine with me....not looking for a "correct" cobra, just a nice cobra with the cool stuff (like my car ) personaly i don't like the "cobra" wheels that are correct, i like the newer style mustang cobra wheels, welds etc...

hey,littlecobra 05-22-2005 12:17 PM

chevhell- what is the asking price, without a cobra trade-in?
I'm keeping my cobra.

chev-hell 05-22-2005 01:27 PM

well at first i didn't want to just sell it, but i've found enough beginner cobra's for around 20-30k... i'd not take any less than 25k for my car... so basicly that's where im at....
i don't blame ya for not wanting to let it go... im almosst that way with my car because it's got enough room to put the kids in the back seat when we go crusin.... I don't think my daughter will like the trunk on the cobra i end up getting :D

chev-hell 07-01-2005 04:59 PM

just put in a new radiator (100* with a/c on it was getting over 200*) $500 for a bad ass radiator :)

cobra de capell 07-02-2005 04:17 PM

John:

I looked at your car once again and you have a notation on your site "Still tuning as i've went thru 3 carbs, but extimated HP is around 650 with 600ft.lb tq..." Once again, an honest statement, but scary to me in that I'm a driver, not a mechanic. Is that the way it is with this kind of car, e.g. one really needs to know about the mechanical part to enjoy this kind of car? With my Cobra, I just drive it and it just seems to run fine (428 FE Police Interceptor engine) - no overheating, no problems.

chev-hell 07-02-2005 04:44 PM

well, im good but not a mechanic per say, the problem i was having was getting it tuned on the low end 100-1600 rpms crusing, well turns out that it really can't be tuned any better as i took it to a chasis dyno and i was almost dead-on... the cam is 3000-7000 rpm cam and the heads are HUGE, which makes the low-end very picky.... really the only thing you'd need to learn how to do is how to adjust the valve lash, with a solid roller it's needs done every few thousand miles and it's pretty ez to do... The dyno shoed around 550hp because the heads are really too big, the intake is too small for the heads as is the cam... but they work fine together, just not getting all of it's potential... (which is fine with me because it's a cruiser not a track car) If you know a decent mechanic he could ezily keep it in tune if you need it done, i have an a/f meter on the pillar so you can see if it's running right or not too.. basicly it likes to run over 2000 rpms... i run the a/c and have a huge custom stereo in it. If you ever have had a big block in a big heavy car like this a stock motor will dissapoint you quickly... my motor is mild enough to cruise, but if you wanna go it'll pull this 4000lb car... your more than welcome to come on out and go for a cruise with me if your close... I go to a lotta car shows and they are usualy 50 miles or so round trip and cruise around town 3-4 times a week.. it's "broke down" only once since i've owned it and it turned out to be just a bad ground wire on the MSD ignition...

chev-hell 07-02-2005 04:45 PM

oh FYI those pics/updates on my site are probably 2 years old nearly.... it's tuned, and running right. everything is working as it's suppose to and i've buttoned all the lose ends up...
