Block year? Key question in CA without SB-100 title.

wolfer 03-14-2005 05:55 PM

Sorry my jpegs were too big for this forum e-mail me and I'll be glad to e-mail the pictures back. Can anyone tell me how to get the engine block date.

Wolfer: down load your pics to your galley, then you can transfer them to the forum thread.

The date code for the FE engine block is below the oil filter adapter mounting area. It's on the small angled part of the block. Look for a number/letter/number sequence. The first number is the year ex: 6 = 66. The next letter is the month using A-M but skipping the letter "I". So A = Jan, B = Feb and so on. The last number(s) is the day block was cast. Hope this helps a bit. G.

Thanks FFR428. The engine code is 9 E 15 so I guess it is a 1969 block. Not what I wanted to see in order to sell her in CA. I've been registered in CA as a '65 since 1990 but the rules have changed.

Nice CCX, the old FE is a nice touch. Recently purchased my CCX and the wait was worth it. Anyone looking at Contemporary cars should be satisfied.

The rules haven't changed. Unless you are smogging it every 2 years someone at DMV made a mistake or the DMV was misled. (not suggesting you misled them). As a 1969 it will need to have the egr / smog pump system put back on to smog and will need it on every 2 years to recheck. (enless you camp out at DMV on Jan 2, 2006... and get 1 of 500 spcns numbers to exempt you)

Nice car though. What # is it?

wolfer 04-05-2005 11:21 AM

The number is CCX33325. As far as the DVM is concerned it is currently a '65. If she does not sell, I'll be camping out at the DMV on Jan 2. to get that SB-1578 (SB-100) exemption.
