1969 Mustang Coupe 351C $3000
 
1969 Mustang Coupe. It's a Grande, 351 Cleveland 2v H code engine. Simply put it is pretty straight, never wrecked. I will do my best to describe the car and if it isn't raining I will take some pictures this weekend.

The car is Acapulco Blue with blue interior. It needs a front bumper, minor bodywork and some rust repair in the roof area. It had a vinyl top (now stripped) and has some rust in the trailing edge of the roof's top edge. I find no rust in the doors, fenders torque boxes or floors. It has some minor rust in the trunk's flat surface, but not in the quarter panels.

The interior is rough. The headliner, back seat and sun visors are good and servicable. The drivers seat can be made presentable and is ok for a 40 year old seat. The passenger seat, dash and carpets, and door panels are shot. The wiper washer switch needs replacing. There is no radio. It needs a passenger window regualtor.

The gauges work well with the exception of the fuel gauge. I think it due to a number of dash wires being disconnected and may be easily fixed.

It drives and runs strong. It pegs the oil pressure gauge all the way to the "H" It will need a front end rebuild, shocks etc. But if you live in Northern California you could drive it home and drive it while you restore it.

It has a rebuilt FMX transmission which shifts strong and smooth, It has 35,000 on the engine, recent dual ehaust with H pipe 9" rear. Good Glass, comes with an extra hood.

The numbers are... Body 65E Color 6 (acapulco blue) Trim 1BA DSO 72 Axle 2 (9" 2.75:1 conventional) Trans X. (FMX)

$3000 which is about half what the NADA Guide says low book is www.nada.org

The car is parked on the street in Vacaville, CA and may be driven by and looked at 24/7

MrMustang correctly points out the H code 1969 Ford mustang was a windsor block car. This is a Cleveland (big block) and would not have been available until 1970. A closer look will be needed to verify the year. While not "original" it is an upgrade.

The $3000 price was for an ad I ran in Craigslist. It is $2500 for CC members. NADA lists both the 1969-1970 351 cars (windsor or cleveland) at $5500 low retail. As this car is rough it might be lower visually but I think the rebuilt engine and trans even it out.

The Cleveland is from a 1974 Torino. The C6 is from the same car.

Interesting trades considered... Guns, knives cobra parts...

Actually, the 351C is a small block. This link is a scan from a factory Ford MuscleParts manual, circa 1971, stating so:

I don't want to piss up a rope but the 335 series of engines are historically considered big blocks, and what you extracted from that article while correct is only part of the story. It also compares it to the 429 from the 385 series of engines. While it is a family of one, there are more similatities between the 335 and 385 (429 and 460) than there are between the small blocks and the 335's... If you consider the 352 FE a big block, and we all do, the 351 C/M is as well.

"Displacement wise it belongs to the small block family" does not make it a small block.

"Weight wise" it's ALSO a small block. Considering the 460 is 720#'s, and FE's (332 through 428) are 625#'s but the Clevelands are 550#'s; it's considered a "small block" by all gearheads that I have ever spoken with. If you want to rationalize as I do: I call it a mid block since the 221 through 302's all weigh in at 460#'s average. However, if you are advertising your car as a 351C "big block"; you can expect that most people will quietly snicker behind your back. Ask anyone on the Cleveland forum and they will tell you it's considered a small to mid block. The only thing that makes that cleveland "big", is ports. And they are huge. I'm replacing mine for the sole reason: its a small block in my Cobra that's designed for a big block. I'm not breaking your chops; it's just common knowledge & perception in the 351 Cleveland fraternity.

All this 351 small block/big block came about describing the difference between a 351W and 351C. In reality, both are small blocks.

I see you called it a "351 Cleveland big block" in your ebay ad......LMAO! I didn't know that my stroked Clevor was a big block! Dang man, if I'd known that I'd have bolted on a set of Boss 429 heads! Priceless.
