Looks Great!
Nice, Gary. I'd love to see the supercharger mounted. You'll have to post that one when you get it installed. In fact, keep us posted on progress in your photo gallery.
Thanks for putting them up. Chuck |
Thanks ericd
I found it on line and bookmarked it. Might be spring before I can get to it, as I am massively remodeling the house right now (Custom tile bath upstairs and arms room/dojo heavy duty remodel downstairs) in addition to not finishing the current cobra mods yet.
MAX, you gonna get the plate "songbird?" for that car? Man, that's a bright yellow! ;) |
Happy to oblige. We gave them the tank spec (16 1/2 inches wide, 8 inches deep on this back edge, 12 on this front edge, pull the fuel from here, put the filler here, etc.) and they were on time and under the bid. They can bend filler necks, have a great inventory, etc.
Any hope we could chat in more depth about your West Coast machine? EricD |

Gas tank fix.
1 Attachment(s)
West Coast has designs and fabricates an excellent kit. It is very complete and the components fit perfectly. So far I have not needed much help from Vern. His manual leaves a lot to be desired, but he responds to questions for help. I am enjoying putting this car together. I have completely stripped the car down to the frame, re-painted and chromed the suspension. I have reassembled and will be installing the 460/525 + (Viper T56) soon. I am about 30% done with this car. If any one needs help installing and connecting gas tank I would be glad to pass on my experience.

Thanks for the heads up. Vern is building my cobra, however I visit the factory every week to check on the progress. I have shared with vern all of the threads under consumer report. So he is up on all the comments. One being the gas tank installation. He has said that if I want. He would have a gas tank custom made. His only comment is that the tank he uses is an aproved fuel cell built for this type of application, rather than a gas tank. He does admit that theres not a lot of room to work with.
I'll be visiting with him mon. and will take your photo with me. Again thanks for the heads up. |

Good or Bad
So with all of the little things that seem to not be perfect is the car still a good kit? If you had to do it again would you change kits? Other thenthe increase in size, safety and being built for a BB what are the other reasons people have purchased this kit? Have most people built this kit themselves or had Vern built it for them? For those that built it themselves was it a complete kit (not missing nut and bolts here and there)? Sorry for all the questions I just want to make a smart choice.
Thanks Willi |
I would do your homework before purchasing a West Coast Cobra. Do a search for post by Back in Black.
If you want to build a Cobra, or have a Cobra built there are many great cars and great builders available without the question marks surrounding West Coast. If you have $40K, you can buy a great used Cobra right now. |
I did not return to this thread to update it...
But I just noticed it thanks to HIQ. Please, anyone who is (foolishly) considering a WCC, check out my post in the consumer forum.. it explains the rest of the story pretty well. My motor WAS going south with bad bearings and I discovered this the same day I made my last post on this thread. My basic cost just to fix that is going to be at least $2800 This is the best price I found and believe it or not it includes everything needed, and a dyno run and a warranty.. which is more than can be said for WCC/Vern Redel, who has completely renigged on the written 1 year warranty he gave me. In fact he will not even respond to my registered letter or about 8 e-mails. Total price to fix all the errors/flaws in this "turnkey" car are approaching $7500 to $8,000... and this does NOT include replacing the silly permeable gas can that Vern calls a "fuel cell". No way am keeping this very scary thing in my trunk with a BATTERY and a 600 watt amp and (2) CD changers! Fuelsafe can look forward to my business as soon as I get her back on the road.

When I was looking for a Cobra I was down to Two, I called West coast And the guy I got on the phone was so rude I wouldn't even think of buying one! Mike
