U Coat it
Well, I'd just like to say that I am really pleased with U Coat It. I ordered their basic kit and was really impressed with how complete the kit was- it comes with everything you need to do the job (except the muriatic acid) from rubber gloves to the garbage bag to throw everything out in when you're done.
Directions were clear and straight forward (even supplied a how-to video which I didn't watch%/ ) and the product went on quickly and easily without any problems. I haven't had the floor coated that long, but so far it seems very durable. I've been running engine hoists and floor jacks all over the place without so much as a scuff on the finish. And the best part is that with a little soap and water, everything - oil, brake fluid, grease and basic dirt- wipe right up. I would highly recommend this product. |
I am always looking for a good coating and I have never heard of U Coat it. Do you know if they have a web site? What stores can you find it in??

How was working with the muriatic acid? Can you just get that stuff at the hardware store? And how do you work it into the concrete? My garage floor quite a few oil stains from previous owners, and I know that all that has to come up before you can put down the coating. Thanks, Russ |
Mines been down for about 6 weeks now and I think it's great. It doesn't seem like it fully cures for 10 to 14 days, but when it's completely done, it's hard as nails.
One thing I'd do differently: since I was going to use the paint flecks anyway, I shouldn't have spread the silca around for the non slip surface. The flecks themselves give enough grain to the floor that I don't think it'd be that slippery when it's wet. Boy, the solvent based final coat reeks while it's curing. The first 3 or 4 days I had the garage door rolled up pretty much 24/7, with a fan to get the air circulating. |
ERA 650

How close are you to getting ERA 650 on the road? |
I had it applied by a company in northern New Jersey about 2+ years ago. It took one man about 3 days to do a double garage. It was a great investment from many standpoints, the best being the cleanup, second the durability.
Very slippery when wet, so make sure you add sand to the clear final coat. |
I, too, have had my floor for about 4 weeks and am very happy. I seem to remember the instructions stating to apply the sand before the clear coat. Check that, I may be mistaken.
My 24 X 30 shop was completed by myself in 3 days but only because of the weather and drying time. When starting, I thought I had something wrong. Some of the guys here made suggestions and helped me along the way. Do a search for "Immediate help with UCoatIt needed" and it will bring you to the thread. Sorry, I don't know how to attach a link. The thread has several tips not in the lit. Some of these tips came from UCoatIt. Chaplin - Glad to see your weather finally broke and gave you the time to apply. Did you have the product shaken by a machine before applying? They told me at UCoatIt that if it sits for a month, I'd be better off having it done. Cobaby |

I didn't use the U-Coat-It, I just used some epoxy floor paint products from Home Depot. Works great. even had a custom color mixed.
The Muratic acid was not that bad to work with, just don't get any on you. I had a leaky bottle and it ate a hole in the concrete... I used degreaser..then the acid...the applied the floor paint. BRIGHT RED. love it. oil, grease, etc...wipes right up. very durable, and the amount of dust is cut drastically!! blake |
