newbie cobra guy
hi iam in the market this spring to do a cobra kit was leaning towards factoory fives product -godd price built quilty ect. the problem is i need to set it up with an autmatic transmission because i drive with hand cvontrols and body have any ideas??
i was lookingat using a 351 but not sure whay auotos coiuld handle it correctly thank , bobby f |
Well the Auto part is not a problem. One of C. S.'s personal cars was an auto I think. They will all handle the HP and torque because of the lack of traction. Have your tranny builder replace the items in the tranny you choose that are weak links.
If you modify for better traction then more weak parts will show up. |
Hey Raggu,
You can build a Factory Five with the 302 and an AOD transmission. I looked at one here in Utah recently. They said it was pretty much a bolt in proposition compared to the regular 5 speed. |
thank you all for the great replys.. i 'll ad them to my build folder.

I'm not too much help, but saw Custom Motors here in Costa Mesa CA (www.custom-motors.com) putting an Auto in a SPF MKIII. I'm sure Barry Bloch at Custom or Lance Stander at Hillbank Motors (the local SPF dealer) could tell you what tranny/engine combo was being used. Good luck!

Raggu,
I have seen several Cobras with both the C-6 and C-4 and 351s in them. The drag racers around here use the c-4 and have the insides built up as it is a lot lighter than the C-6. Alsoone guy is runniing a builtup C-4 in a cobra with a 502/600horse motor and he has never had a problem. In fact with the light rear end, I doubt if he really needed to have it built as much as he did. And welcome to the club. Ron |
351W AUTO
We have two E-M 351 with a C-6 and I have one with a 4 speed AOD. Parrish and Bobby complain about high rpms at cruising speed. Parrish is going to change his. If you are building, go with the AOD. B&M shift kit in an older AOD on a carb'ed motor works great. I have a 9" with 3:50 gears, cruise about 2100 at 70.
