CCX comp tank test fitted

I couldn't help myself but post even though it's got dusty straps that haven't been powdercoated yet. Check out the neat-o comp style CCX tank. Other than a flat back to stay inside the rear frame crossmember it really looks the part from underneath.http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/2417/ccxcomp004.jpg
It was cracking me up how well this all came together to emulate the original. Note the original style C-channel is now utilised as a rear end tie bar. The tank straps bolt to that channel. The suspension bolt removal cones in the tank front are now spaced for a Jag rear. Original straps and hangers coming off the bumper brackets in the original style.http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/305/ccxcomp001.jpg
Like I said it really tickled me how much CSX style stuff just bolted in like it was made for it. I'm looking forward to trying this style in a couple of other chassis' now.

Awesome!
Can you post a couple pics with the car sitting on the ground? Just like to see how it looks at ride height.

Hey Larry, I know you're waiting for this. We had a car in the shop that needed a couple of welding jobs done so we took the opportunity to pull that tank and test fit this one. It wasn't lowered to the ground and sat on wheels but is getting one of these tanks so more soon.

That looks great, have you done any load testing (with a full tank of fuel) yet for the straps and bolts along with your mount points? Keep up the great work.

Jeff. What are you trying to say? I'm not sure it's clear.

Nick, how about some particulars on the tank, such as volume and cost? Is the tank baffled?

mickmate 11-08-2009 04:37 PM

Jeff sketched it up, Doug ponied up to make the first one, Ron had a CCX here that needed the tank dropping for some welding (roll bar and driveshaft safety loop). I really like making parts like this that are a team effort, all the planets were aligned! The tank is about 26 gallons I think according to Dougs on line calculator he plugged it into. The hardware is made to hold quite a bit more than that Bill, somewhere closer to the 42 mark. It has two baffles and also has a trap around the pickup tube to hold a reserve of fuel under acceleration. Thanks guys!

Strangely looks familiar.

A light bead blast to the ally and the straps in black would really make that a keeper. What a great part!

Scotch brite and a few tastefully applied dings............
