I kinda think that if I can't find any numbers then there just aren't any. The big boss at the SJ CHP is a friend. I'll ask her next time I see her about what I should do. It would be nice though to have the "correct" paperwork.%/

Looks like your chassis is painted or powdercoated. Look hard where the lower control arm mounts on the front right. It's up towards the top of the tube. Funny how it looks black outside and grey indoors.

YUP it's powdercoated. I'll go look on the right side. I've been looking on the drivers side. OK , I checked the right side, top, bottom, side, front, back. It ain't got no stinkin' numbers. I'm going with XAVIER'S suggestion ,"youradumass" |

Oops, yes I used to drive on the other side of the road it is the US drivers or left side of the car.

In addition to the serial no. on the frame and the tag on the PS foot box, Contemporary usually taped a tag on the transmission hump in the interior...somewhere between the firewall and where the dash would hang down. That tag contained the CCX number...may have fallen off too.
a frame produced in 1993 would defintely have the number under the DS shock tower (earlier torsion cars had them elsewhere), sand it down, the powdercoat or paint fills it in.

I sanded down a couple likely looking scratches to no good. This is a torsion bar frame. B4 I sand off all the powder coat, I'd like to hear from somebody who knows a more accurate place to look. All the body tags don't seem to have made it through the years.

Have the experts that have weighed in here confirmed that your kit is indeed a Contemporary? Just wondering if it might be something else.

Everything else checks out. I have the original manual that came with it. Everything appears just like the pix in the book. I have the original windshield box from Contemporary. |

This is the same car that danielg had for sale on the forums here. I can take pix of anything and post them , I just don't know what to take pix of.

My car is a torsion bar car, and the numbers on the frame were DEFINITELY on the drivers side main tube just aft of the front suspension mounting points. Peter Bayer, currently the owner at Nisonger Instruments, was the owner of Contemporary. You can call him and ask him as well. Perhaps he sent some frames out without numbers? He's the guy to ask.

If you have no supporting documents that show a frame # then don't worry about it, the CHP can asign you a new VIN #. just make sure you have receipts for all the major components when you get to that point. A SPCNS (specially constructed) vehicle is just that in the eyes of the CA DMV, it won't have a kit builders brand name as the make of vehicle on the title because YOU ARE the maker of the vehicle, it is being "specially constructed" of many different parts. again you will need to document all of the costs of your build and weather or not you paid CA sales tax on them, they are trying to get an accurate value for the car so that you can pay the appropriate licence fees, they even want a figure for your own labor so don't spend to much time building it ;);)

I should have clarified....I meant the very early torsion cars that did not have CCX serial numbers (just a numeric) ....they were stamped in another spot on the tube...can't remember where now. |
