If it's mechanical about all you can do is rap on it with your knuckles and if that doesn't work you're going to have to replace it. If it's one of their electrical models then there's a chance the connections have gone bad or the sender has failed. |

yep, that's what i got. word is that it is probably shot. after some research it seems they are not that dependable. i have a supply just down the road here in south minneapolis. 135 for a new one. damn.

The replacement is not that bad. Now I don't know CC dashes, but if it's pretty close to my ERA you just remove the dash screws, pull the dash forward a couple of inches, first try and go in from beneath while on your back with your head down by the pedals and your feet over the top of the seat, if you can't do that then go in down from the top with your hand to remove the screws from the back of the gauge, remove the fitting from the manifold, then snake the whole contraption through the grommet in the firewall. Do the opposite to install the new one. It sounds harder than it really is. |

These mechanical gauges should be considered somewhat of a "consumable" item on these cars.
I see them go out much like light bulbs.
Dont loose the copper washer when you take the fitting apart

If you pull the seat closest to that guage you can get under and behind the dash. They have an liiumination bulb and a U bracket holding them in. Snake out and through with the new one, you may need a vibration loop or two to prolong the capillary tube life if you have length for it. When I get stuck on my back in these things like that I'll holler "someone get me a #2 phillips" and what they hear is "quick grab your camera and hold it steady between chuckles for a picture", just so you're warned ;-)

I replaced my water temp gauge last year and it lasted 200 miles. At least they will cover it under warranty.

fixed. 140.00 for the new one from the gauge guys(apt). they are just down the street! great luck. the smith repro looks slightly different on the face design, the type is slightly different, but that's ok. the biggest challenge was trying to stand upright this morning after spending too long yesterday upside down and crammed under the dash!
