Blank Contemporary Vin Plate
Looking for a blank Contemporary Vin plate to mount on wall plaque along with picture of car for my den wall. I spoke to Peter Bayer and he did not believe the company that originally manufactured. them was still in business. I know it is a shot in the dark, but I thought I would try anyway. Any help or ideas are appreciated. Thanks....

I never had one either............

Nor me, Ralph. My car is a very early one. All I have is the stamping on the front drivers side frame rail, and a sticker on the cockpit side of the firewall high center with the body number. I never had a plate. Hope this helps.

My car was older than these other guys and I had one. In fact I've still got it!
I had a new one made at a trophy shop, very cheaply, under $10 as I recall. Just provide them with the art work on a disc. They could even blow it up if you want. |

Rick, is the pic you sent the original or the one that was made up? Where do you get the art work?
CCX-1984, do you have a pic of the plate that was made for you? Thanks..... |
Mine is also an early one, registered as 1983. CCX 3041, it has a plate, which looks identical to the one Rick posted, just a different order to the numbers :3DSMILE:

Doug, good to hear you're feeling ok. I had surgery in January as well. Pretty extensive, however all was ok. Going to take some time to heal, but I'll get there. Any idea when you car will arrive?

That's my original plate. The repro looked just like it except I added the CCX to the serial number.Thought it was cooler at the time. Plate is just .050" aluminum, 4x2". I think I used Paint or some similar real basic program to recreate it. Just pick the right fonts, place the writing, draw some lines and you're done. The trophy place ingraved the numbers and printed the tag. Even supplied the metal. Easy
To get fancy you could laquer the plate. |
Rick, I don't have access to any software like that nor would I know how to use it. Do you think a plaque or trophy shop could copy the detail from the photo you sent?

MS Paint comes bundled with most computers and is easy to use. If I can do it, anybody can. Childs play for a trophy shop.

Contemporary Blank Serial number plate
I know this is an old thread, but I have just completed my prototype Contemporary Cobra and wanted a plate for the foot box. I took the jpeg of the plate above and used it as an overlay for creating the artwork in Adobe Illustrator. I then had PlaqueMaker.com make two out of Gold colored aluminum, $15 each. One was for practice stamping the numbers, the other turned out okay.I will post in my gallery. I would be happy to send the artwork as a pdf to anyone interested. It is set up for a 2" x 4" tag, but can be resized to anything.
I don't know when production went from Mt Vernon to Mamaroneck N.Y., anyone? |

It would great if you could provide me with the art work. I would be most appreciative, if you could email it to me; Cobra1965@verizon.net
